Hey gang...
I was just curious if I should build up Nome to a size 7 airfield, and launch b-29s into Northern Japan?..... Only problem is.. can they reach the Japan mainland from there?
Sure, by the time they arrive I should have Saipan.. and Guam.. but just curious because this is another good sized airfield... but I'm leaning more towards the fact that they can't reach from there....
just curious.
Thanks!

Don't bother. Even if they can reach it (which I can't remember, but doubt), there's not much to bomb in the north. Wait for Saipan, Guam and Tinian to become available.

Moot point since they can't reach anything. I just looked hoping that I had missed something.

Well I'm trying a little alternative to this plan. I took over Kiska, stationed subs and AS and AV, to start a sub campaign in Japanese home waters immediately. Unfortunatel I haven't seen a single freighter yet but maybe its too early in the war...

There is a "northern strategy" for the Allies that involves seizing Sakhalin. If you can manage that then B-24's can hit most of Honshu and once the B-29's arrive you can dismantle all the Home Islands, Korea, and Manchuria. It's not too difficult against AI, but a human player could make it very expensive.
Edit: Unless you're using S boats or sending your "named" subs on mining missions I wouldn't expect many hits until 1943 due to the dud detonator special rule. Also, be prepared to move your subs after a successful attack or if a Japanese defender makes and ASW attack on a sub. Once the sub is "spotted" in a hex the odds for a successful attack go down.

Canoerebel invaded the Japanese northern islands to launch bombing raids in his game against John 3rd. Both players wrote AARs titled Forlorn Hopes ...

I've always wondered if you can run a successful N. Japan campaign...I'm heading for Shishka?? Can't recall the name, but has potential to be good sized port and airfields... so I'll see if I can take it, keep it supplied without too much cost to shipping...
