Vichy France?

Will I ever see it? I've played three games as the Germans, always taking Holland and Belgium before breaking into france, and every time I have to conquer the whole damn country. I've never even see an event where france refuses to make peace, it just goes on and on and on. Under what conditions does the Vichy event trigger?

You are probably not taking Nantes which is required.

make sure you get the VP cities in France, and also Nantes, and you will get the trigger (I don't think you need Marsalle in the south, but the ones in the north are part of the deal)

I understand the event conditions from the Germany event file (with my basic XML knwoledge) as being
Germany must control Paris
AND EITHER Metz + French resource hex coord 100,95, + Lille
AND (Nantes OR either Caen or Tours)
Pretty circumvoluted, devs can correct me [:'(]

From the top of my head (without opening the file) you are correct PDiFolco

PDiFolco,
Aargh! Guess I'm just dense but I don't get it. Could you elaborate on the conditions? The first "AND EITHER" baffles me as everything that follows is "+". Guess the bottom line in my game is it seemed I took everything BUT Nantes, and still couldn't get Vichy until Nantes fell.

RA, hmmm, you're right, I cant' even understand now what I meant, my formula makes no sense ...[&:] [:D]
And rereading the xml I'm now unable to confirm where the conditions should be "and" or "or", damned xml garbage syntax, in C it was only 1 char to say this !! [:D]
Devs please help !!!

How are we supposed to know about these events, what triggers them, or even what they do?
I keep seeing event reports, but I have no idea what they mean.

I quite like not knowing what will trigger a surrender or not. Did the historical adversaries? That said, France seems a lot more surrender resistant than its historical counterpart.. What bothers me more though, is the loss of all axis troops in Vichy territory once the surrender takes place. Better to stay at war
Here:
Paris
and
(Metz and Reims) or (Lille and Reims) or (Metz and Lille)
and
Nantes
and
Tours or Caens
I don't think so. I had Paris, Metz, Reims and Lille for weeks, also Caen. Surrender wasn't offered until I took Nantes.

If it helps look at it this way, you need either.
Paris, Metz, Reims, Nantes and Tours
or
Paris, Metz, Reims, Nantes and Caens
or
Paris, Lille, Reims, Nantes and Tours
or
Paris, Lille, Reims, Nantes and Caens
or
Paris, Metz, Lille, Nantes and Tours
or
Paris, Metz, Lille, Nantes and Caens
so no matter what, Nantes had to fall before a surrender was offered it's the only thing common to all options apart from Paris.
A more succinct way of putting it would be,
Paris
and
Nantes
and
(Metz and Reims) or (Lille and Reims) or (Metz and Lille)
and
Tours or Caens
Unit's displaced by an event return to your force pool for redeployment. (I think)?

This needs to be spelled out in-game. I conquered almost the entire country before they surrendered. I can live with those victory conditions, but stuff like that needs to be more explicit so I am not wasting a huge amount of my time.

Do you think that in 1940 Germans know when France will surrender? [;)]

Yeah but here players are bound to know it... unless there is some *random* conditions ! That would be neat, and maybe possible with the event engine ?

I'll think about that

Exactly, fixed surrender conditions don't work. Either the playing field is uneven as some players know the conditions, others not, or, if known to both sides, campaigns develop along predictable paths to achieve the same objectives each time.
Would it be possible to determine surrenders by die roll, the roll modified by factors such as casualties, lost cities, social unrest, allied comittment/proximity to support the threatened country?

I think my overall point is that how it turns out is pretty a-historical. Mehring's suggestion hits the nail on the head.
