What exactly does "more prepared" mean in the second long term scenario?

You get more resources to start with: more supplies, more fuel and more units of all types.

Basically means that Japan planned for a longer war and geared production and training towards that end. In other words, they stepped up to a war footing for their economy much quicker so you will see some additional naval and air units.

IRL, Japan felt the war would be over in a few months and neglected to implement a full war footing on the home front until the outcome had already been decided.

Nothing outrageous. Better planning or not, Japan couldn't build many more big fleet units. There's a few extra Aganos, and several expanded destroyer classes, like more Shimakazes and Akitsukis.

Got kicked as well heavily. I like the more "simulation" aspect of AE.

YOU were scaring us with AE complxity on all levels... [:-] ... but as I see- it is not so complicated at all. the only thing that is a bit complicated are port loadin/unloading routines [:D]

I was playing with the editor and I noticed that CS Mizuho and Nisshin are convertable to CVLs like the Chitose and Chiyoda with their own future airgroups. Shinano is now a second unit of the Taiho class even though the airgroup is the same. Hopefully at some point some one will come up with a complete list of differences. The IJN pilot situation is also a lot better with 900+ in each training group and EXP of 50.

Shinano  could still have been a CV earlier if they had decided to Convert sooner, before even Midway...and  If :) remove the bad luck of incomplete ship being moved and sunk...

So An earlier decision for more Carriers and Shinano could been indeed a Carrier built sooner of the Taiyo class..

Going a Bit further... a more prepared japan could have had Both "shinano" as an extra Taiyo while Shinano itself getting completed as that extra Yamato class
