scrollin in windowed mode

I cant scroll with the mouse in windowed mode.... is this a bug, a feature, or is it just me? moving the mouse to the edges of the window does nothing. only way to move the map is by arrow keys or clicking in the small navigation window.

I use windowed mode all the time and it scrolls.  In the settings, there is a window scroll delay.  That is how long the mouse needs to sit on the edge of the window to start scrolling.  Try reducing it and see what happens.  It also helps to move the mouse just a little outside the game window to start scrolling.

In windowed mode it only scrolls for me if I go all the way to the edge of the display.

When I say the edge of the display, I mean the edge of my monitor display, not the WitP-AE window. No need to go slow, just slam the mouse over there is what I do.

Move the mouse to the edge of your entire monitor/laptop screen.  Then, it will scroll within the window.

Stretch,

Are you running on a system with more than one monitor?

OK this must be me somehow.. installed on another machine, -same problem- however, both are running windows 7 RC. anyone else tried windowed mode on W7 ? I know this means my issue wont be supported... so I just wanted thoughts and maybe give a heads up that W7 RTM may have mouse issues.

so for clarity :

I'm running the game with the -w shortcut
moving the mouse to the edge of the window should scroll the map that direction, yes?
I've tried scroll delay 0 and 1.
only one monitor on each machine.
once in a great while the map will budge a little in the direction it should go. usually nothing.
using compatibility mode for XP or Vista did not help. guh

I haven't tested Windowed Mode in Windows 7 RC. I did try normal Fullscreen mode there and it worked fine. As you noted, Windows 7 isn't officially supported (yet) but we will be supporting it once the actual release shows up. We can certainly hope that the final release with final drivers resolves this.

I'll give Windowed mode a try on our Windows 7 RC test system to see if the same thing happens here. If so, the only solution for now until we get the release version of Windows 7 will be to play full screen.

right-o.  thanks for giving it a try.....   I'll keep messing with it too and see if I come up with anything. let me know how your test goes.

I use Win7 x64 and scolling works for me.

I play in windowed mode over Win 7 64-bit RC. Scrolling behaves as it did with WitP. The 4 AMD cores (split over 2 CPUs) in my system were a bit of a problem, but it had to do with load balancing. Once the system was told to use only one core for AE (even if it runs at a mere 1.8 GHz), speed improved.

With Win 7 it is probably not a question of old drivers, but I would check if you have any optional updates (drivers mainly) that could be the reason of your troubles, just in case. Another possiblility is a conflict with an installed utility that is causing a conflict of some sort.

Anyway, good luck, and may you soon fix that problem :)

This HAS to be user error. it also doesn't work on my Vista box. 3 machines, with only a mouse in common, which I swapped out to a different type on one box.

But I can't imagine what kind of user error it is, how does mouse scrolling stop working in game? there's no way to turn it off... but I drag the mouse right to the side of the window... nada.

ugh.

uhhh..I just discovered scrolling works if I go all the way to the edge of the desktop, outside the game window.  which is a long way on a very large LCD panel.

I've never used windowed mode with WitP, so is that how it's supposed to work?

Yes, that is the way it has always worked. Also... make sure the AE window is the active window. I forget that sometimes :)
