Physical shipment backordered?

I checked on my AE order (made Monday at 1215 EDT) thinking that I might try downloading it over my dialup but gave up when it looked like it was going to take 27 hours over my connection.
However, the status of my physical shipment is listed as "backordered"? What's up with that? Did you guys run out of physical copies in the first fifteen minutes of sales?

Thanks Erik... I drove into work at 1AM last night to download over the DSL. After two hours and 442Mb, the download failed... I don't feel like going through that again, so I guess that I'll just hope that UPS is quick about things!

The new port size loading and unloading rules have really slowed down the loading of AE. But the waypoint system will make delivery a lot easier, so hopefully that will make up for it!

Hmmmm, I download the game twice (at home and at work), in about 15 minutes each time. I also ordered hard copies so I could have the manual nearby. It's not a big deal, but for over $100, I am a bit surprised that the game only supports a resolution of 1024.It does scale well on my 24-inch monitor though...

Ordered hard copy on 27 July in afternoon by phone with next day mail option for an extra 20 bucks on top of regular shipping.
I then saw a post by erik that shipping was delayed til like the 28th or 29th. I called back and informed them (the company taking the orders......not matrix) of this and asked to have them ship regular and adjust my cc bill to reflect this. They did so gladly but as of 4 days later I still do not have an e mail with a UPS tracking # that confirms it shipped.
Not griping.......just wondering. As far as I know nothing has happened.
Some one should let them know not to offer the next day shipping option at all if no one knows when it will really start to ship.(This could potentially rub someone the wrong way) Had I known this I would have gotten the PS and DL option as they are the same price....now just sitting around......

You're not the first to wonder about 1024x768. The answer is that 1) design of the original Witp was a long time ago, and 2) it is apparently no mean feat to allow for a change in resolution. I read that it is being considered for sometime in the future, but no promises are being made.
As the map is now astronomically large, a larger field of view is more necessary than ever.

A major reason I posted this thread was that when I ordered the game on Monday it was listed as "In Stock", but when I checked on my order on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning is was listed as "backordered". Digital River needs to get their act together rather than sending out such mixed signals - it makes you feel like a teenager on a third date!

Physical shipment started as 0(0) production. They have to ramp up. [:D]

Okay, Erik, I understand. That still doesn't explain why DR had them listed as "In stock" when we placed our orders on Monday...

No, it doesn't - they should have been listed as "Back Ordered" from the beginning. It's possible this was just a caching issue that took some time to clear, it's also possible it was a store glitch on their end where they forgot to set the status, could be that since we were telling them the manuals were on track to arrive on Monday they were anticipating that. It should only have switched to "In Stock" once they had it in the warehouse. DR, however, as we've found many times, is not perfect (neither are we).
