What's the best civil war game for me...

So I have not played a civil war strategy game since Civil War Generals 2 and while it was clearly a great game in its day, I am not looking for a battle tactics simulation at this point. I am looking to get one that is strategic in scope, allows for a wide variety of unorthodox strategies as opposed to being locked in to the historical course of the war, is reasonably quick to play without a lot of micromanagement, and of course is challenging, fun, somewhat realistic etc.
Games I have tried and like include GG's world at war, Commander: Europe at war, Civ4, Axis and Allies, Total War series, Europa Universalis series.
So I assume many people here are avid civil war game fans and have played them all. So I would like ot hear what people might suggest for me given the information above. Perhaps even a quick rundown of the top options and pros and cons if someone is really ambitious... Hope I'm not asking for too much here...

If you liked GG World at War, it sounds like GG War Between the States would suit you well as it is built on the same engine. No tactical combat, plays fast and has a solid AI opponent. I never played GGWAW, but I really like WBTS.

WbtS without any question.
You also can dig through appropriate forums here. There are many threads dealing with differences between WbtS, FoF and AACW.

Based on my bold, I'd say Gary Grigsby's War Between The States - for quick challenging play, you won't beat it.
My personal all time fav is Forge of Freedom and you can easily "tone down" the micro-management.

I agree. If you liked GG World at War then his Civil War game is a no brainer
Next I would look at AGEOD's Civil War game as well, right up your alley
