AI teleports ships

I'm making a testrun computer-vs-computer and have noticed, that the AI seems to 'teleport' ships around the map from time to time.

FI: On march 1. 1942 Lexington and Enterprise are docked at Suva and Hermes at Triconmalee. One turn later on march 2. they are together with some cruisers and destroyers in a TF cruising NW of Perth. I know carriers are quick but...

And I have seen the same happen with several cruisers during february.

Is this a bug, or is it intended, that the AI can 'cheat' this way?

Not a bug as the ai does not have the ability to plan ahead.

It is intended. It's one of the ways that the poor stupid AI can give a decent game.

Does that mean that AI Enterprise can bomb Rabaul on March 1st and then strike my invasion force next day near Midway? I guess not, but what keeps AI from doing that?

There's some code to prevent that.

[align=left]Similarly, if I spot all the AI carriers out of theater, and decide to use mine in theater for a hit and run raid  based on that recon, can the enemy suddenly be there when my strike gets there in a few days (when they would not normally)?

need to know how to assuage the risk.

My own CV Escort (CVE Long Island and escort) teleportsĀ from area near Port Moresby (98,133) to the east from Noumea (117,159).
And they got penalty for this quick moving [:D] (all ships have 10+ system damage, before turn mostly damaged Long Island had 4sys)

Edit: Attached archive with pre-turn and after-turn saves

Thanks. Bug confirmed. Not related to AI, it has to do with following TF 18 way over on the other side of the Coral Sea.

I would assume its the whole Teleport thing as a concept that turns him off, but i could be wrong.
Btw now that we are in the area. I saw some thing that mystified me a bit and i wonder if its an offspring of this rule. Around mid jan i had a convoy topping up Midways supply. it was escorted by a few DDs. I have 2 Catalina groups on Midway both on Naval search, with around 8-9 planes so abit understrength and around 50% on patrol. 6k altitude and search 360 degress. All of a sudden the a single Jap destroyer attacks the convoy. There was no sign of it either before or after the attack. Of course the naval search planes could totally have missed it both before and after, but still. So i went in and looked at the jap side. It wasnt sunk and there wasnt any forces near Midway. Could there be any way that the destroyer "teleported" forth and back?

Kind regards,

Rasmus

In addition.
In this saves you can see - squadrons of 3rd BG transfered to Port Moresby from Cairns by oneself with changing mission (was ASW became Naval attack) and altitude (from 6000 to 17000) - possible default mission for LB.
Each turn I'm moving them to Cairns and each turn (if whole squadron is in Cairns, if there are sub-units in other bases squadron not moving) they are returning back to Port Moresby [X(].
I've tried to rebase them to Chapter Towers - the same [:(]
And TF 18 is going to pick them up from PM [&:] - I cann't return this TF to Townsville.
I removed files aei004-01.dat and aei004-02.dat from SCEN folder - no result (only stopped automatic generation Transport TFs from Sydney)
It was in version 1.00.79 and continues in 1.00.108.

Thats what i first thot: It just doesnt explain why when switching to ai/jap there wasnt any naval force any where near Midway/ within 1 turns move of he island. As said it wasnt on the sunk list either. oh well.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

If you are playing scenario #4 and the aie004-?.dat files were there when you started, then removing now wont have any affect as they are already in the save.
You will need to restart in order to correct the problem.

In the original Pac war that WITP is a remake of... a mod for Final countdown as scenario was once made ;)

It is possiable to create such a scenario with editor and adding needed weapons ..linked only to that TF...

Of course....... It would be a Short scenario, Dec 8 or Dec 9....
Tokyo would be Nuked ;)

I'm curious--what are these circumstances? Like sveint, I find this revelation somewhat alarming. It reminds me of when Paradox hobbled HOI2 by giving the AI unlimited naval and aircraft range.

Sid Meyers once said, there are only two types of game AI, ones that cheat and the ones you don't notice!  All game AI's cheat, the trick is to make the player not notice!

Is there some sort of delay ((X + random) number of days) for this magic movement? This would make it much less noticeable and some what more palatable.
