How do you use support ships?

Hi All-
I am new to the game and playing GC as the Allies. I'm curious as to the best way to actually use support ships. AR's are relatively self-explanatory, as are the other "repair" types. However, I'm curious as to how the AS, AV, AVD/P, AG/P, and AE are most effectively utilized. How do you get them to interact with the units they are supposed to service? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Lots of people are going to give you lots of info, that may, or may not be useful.
My thought is read the manual. and then come in with specific questions. Support ship stuff is very deep and wide.

AS add points to repair subs. So I put a few in the port that I want my subs to work out of.
AV/AVD et al I put them in forward area's where I want sea planes. I think they can be docked or disbanded to provide support for the sea planes.
I had great luck with the AE's; If I want a SAG group to run around I create a support TF with AE's (usually 1) and a replenishment oiler and park it at an attol or island that is near the action and when they run low on ammo bring them there for a quick refit.

do you need to resupply the larger tenders AV's, AD's, etc.( the ones that actually have a cargo capacity) or will they draw supply from the base?

I've read the manual and am a vet WITP'er, but I am still unclear on the AG-type ship. Manual says it's basically a non-torpedo carrying tender for small ships.
Can anyone be more specific on what types of ships exactly it supports, and what it does?

I believe AS (sub tenders) also allow your subs to reload their torpedos from the AS instead of going back to a big port to get reloaded.
And yes, seaplane tenders do add to the bases maintenance rating (for seaplanes) if the tender is docked or in port.

p.241 under repair of major damage. Quite useful actually.

Manual 275-276
AS - send a AS and some subs to an islands + fuel/supplies you got a sub base.
Av's - send a AVD or AV or AVP, plus some float planes to an lsland + fuel/supplies you got a float base.
AD's - allow DD's to reload torpedoes
AE - provide ammo for ships, bigger the ammo the more supply and bigger base you need.
AGP - provides support and torpedoes for PT/MTB's
AG's - supports small ships, right now I'm just using them as transports.
AR, ARD - repair ships when in the same port.
