What kind of CPU do you have, John?

We found that there was a timing interaction between modern dual/quad-core systems and the most common video drivers. One of the best ways to work around it was to actually stick to "single core" processing. Your operating system will still use the second core for anything it needs.

On all the systems we tested it on, single core, dual core and quad core, this improved performance, but part of why this is a BETA hotfix is that we wanted to confirm that result with the customer base. Please post a DxDiag in the Tech Support sub-forum so we can see how your system may differ.

Regards,

- Erik

Intel Core 2 Duo
T7500 2.20 with 2 GB of ram. \
results the same with or without the -dual switch. Running in Windows mode. This was the only change I made to my system and the problem was immediately apparent.

Please post a DxDiag for us when you get a chance. I'll move this to the Tech Support forum.

Ok, I think yours is the first Dual Core CPU with Integrated Video Chipset system we've had a report on. Your video drivers for your Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset from 2007. There should be an update for those that would be worth trying to see if the old ones are somehow interacting with our changes. The CPU also has a little more to do with the hotfix, so since this is a laptop I would make sure to try this when plugged in and with all power settings set to _not_ decrease performance in any way, just in case the laptop-style performance throttling they sometimes do to preserve battery life was kicking in.

OK, I'll look for the new drivers. Interesting find however. Problem goes away in full screen. Exists only in Window mode

Aha, that's almost certainly a driver-related issue then.

new drivers didn't help. Much more pronounced in windows mode. In full screen is about 60/40 processor distribution. Windows mode is about 95/5
