Base mousing graphical glitch

Attached is a screen save of graphical glitches I sometimes find after mousing over bases - the terrain under the pop-up base box seems to be picked up and on occasion shows up again when mousing over the next base. I am running WITP-AE in full screen mode. Left clicking on the screen clears the glitch.

I have just encountered the same thing.  I hope rebooting my computer will fix it.

Nope, a reboot and several game restarts did not help.

DxDiag file is attached.

I have this too. I didn't notice until applying Hotfix.

For further information :-

I re-installed the original WITP AE without the 1.080 hotfix added and there does not appear to be the graphical glitches as shown in my original post.

If you're running with the hotfix, try adding the -dd_hw command line switch and let me know if that makes any difference.

Erik,

Just tried to add -dd_hw to the Quck Start command line for the 1.080 version and on trying to start the game using the Quick Start I get an error message saying "error - can't create color surface " then the game CTD.

Erik adding the command line switch -dd_hw stops the game from loading.  I get the following error message:
"Error: Can't create color surface"

I use the dual and deepColor command line switches.  I have turned them off and I get the same error message.

What is interesting is my XP PC at home (Nvidia 9800 gtx+ w/ latest driver) does this and my Vista PC (integrated graphics) at work does not. I have not tried the -dd_hw thing based on Jamesm problems.

Guys, can you please try the -dd_def switch as well?

Also, please try setting the WITP AE process priority to High (right click on the AE process in your Task Manager - ctrl-alt-del - and set priority to High there) and let me know if that changes anything.

Erik,

First impressions are that the -dd_def switch has cured the problem.

I have tried both with high Priority and normal Priority and both appear to correct the problem. I assume the dd switch has something to do with direct draw.

Will try this switch in conjunction with the others i use and will revert if there are any problems.

Many thanks for the switch suggestion.

No doubt the others will advise on their systems in due course

Erik,

Thank you the -dd_def switch fixed it and it looks as it also further speeded up loading times.

Fixed the graphic thing for me too.

Graphic glitch is still present though less frequent and corrected by scrolling after applying -dd_def -dd_hw, dropping -dual.  Everything is NOW very fast: screen loads, map scrolling with F6 on (I have hexes off and use F6 when I need to see hex distances/ info). Scrolling in this mode was usually too slow so I turned it off when scrolling - this is now fast.  I manually set affinity to cpu 0 and priority to high.

Woops. This did fix the graphics problem for me. I was using 'autorun.exe' not 'War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe', hence my continued graphics problems.

Erik,

Re the graphics problem and your suggestion to use command line switch dd_def to cure the problem ( see 1st post )

I am using the new Public Beta update with the following switches -SingleCpuOrders -cpu2 -multiaudio -altFont -deepColor -fd -dd_sw.

Using these switches I am having a recurrence of the graphics glitches as per the sample below. I have had to remove the -dd_sw switch and replace it with the dd_def switch.

cdcool, if that works for you, using the -cpu1 or -cpu2 switch to direct AE to run exclusively on one processor should help.

Well, I reduced the mouse scrolling delay to "2" and that fixed the problem without any of the switches.
