Sorry about the Off Topic post, just figured that most of the WiR players would be intrested in a new grand strategy level war game.

Game is published by the battlefront (yes, the Combat Mission one ).

Here's the link

They stated at their forum that they are trying to get it out this summer.

Thank you for posting this. This one looks a LOT more interesting than the HOI game from the Europa people, but who wants to bet their AI is really going to be sophisticated? Yea, right.

But hey, look Mom, HEXAGONS!!! :D

I beg to differ.
If HOI game is all of what they say it is it should be brilliant.

Epic gameplay - Global map with all the nations between 1936-1946

Scenario generator – Allows the players to modify and construct their own settings and campaigns and add national detail in thousands of combinations! Will assure great replayability and community activity!

Deep diplomatic model – Unique system to simulate political systems and their effect on neutral nations in relation to alliances.

Domestic political system.

Highly advanced research model – Change the course of war by getting superweapons and better production capabilities.

Real Time gameplay set to pause at any time. One minute of gameplay translates to one hour passed in reality.

Historical generals and political leaders. Thousands of real persons researched for individual detailed uniqueness.

Strategic level military system – over 100 different ground, air and naval forces fighting the total war on divisional level.

Optimized for Multiplayer - Hearts of Iron enables players to easily meet over the net through our proprietary Valkyrienet matchmaking service.

2 hours of quality musical recordings in MP3 format.

I just hope the game is all that they promise it will be.

This one is using a hexagonal map. HOI is using a "province" based map similar to Europa Universalis. When it comes to modern wargames, I'll take hexes over "provinces" any day.

Am I wrong, or this "new" game is just good, old(>10 years, I think) Clash of Still + Editor?

I think it does look like clash of steel. I think they took the research module from somewhere else though, it looks surprisingly familiar.

[edit - Oh yeah, and how can anything claim to be grand strategy without depicting the whole world? Is the Pacific War not a part of WWII?]

I don't see that, except for the resource icon (crossed shovel and pick). At least this one looks like it has a real naval implementation instead of COS's naval system. SC represents individual ships. Also note they keep the HQ units behind the other ground units. This implies to me that HQ units in SC aren't front line combat units which makes a LOT more sense than COS. In COS, HQ units were also combat units, and were typically the strongest units so they were on the front lines constantly which makes no sense whatsoever.

The site's description of the game does say its divisional but it doesn't say how the nature of the map will be. However in the forum on that site someone asks a question, and the answer says the game will be using a "province" system for movement. Its dissapointing.

To bad, this means there will be little room for strategic/tactical genious
