Text looks terrible

All the graphics etc. are just great but the text is really ugly.
I have a high end laptop that I hook up a 24" Dell monitor to. The resolution is 1900 x 1280. When I start AE a window pops up saying that I can use 1900 x 1280. I already am and if the game isn't using this resolution why not and how do I change it.
I can't find any way to change the resolution in prefences. What am I missing?
Thank you.

The game has a fixed resolution of 1024 X 768.
I find that the text looks better using the -altFont switch on my 1920X1200 LCD. See the "What's new" pdf in your AE folder for further info and other game startup option swiches.
You will likely need to set your monitor to 4:3 if you want the correct aspect ratio. Although it doesn't look too bad stretched to 16x10. I'm still not sure which I prefer. 4:3 means a black band on each side.

Thanks for your reply.
The readme is very unhelpfull. You have to know where to put the -altFont etc. in the string. They give no instructions and I had to go to another thread to even get it to load. Even then my font looks the same. I tried -r -w -deepColor and they don't seem to make a difference.
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\autorun.exe" -altFont
I'm using XP is that the problem?

I got it to work. My shortcut was going to autorun instead of just exe file. Looks much better by the way.
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -deepColor -r -dual
-w really screwed up the screen so I guess I'll play without that.
Thank you again.
