Reported Losses

Does anyone know of a way to make all combat losses tally up properly?

It seems that naval losses (air/sea/land) as well as surrendered units do not show up as losses on the report screen and I have not found any script files that can address this particular issue.

I didn't see much interest generated in the Tech Support thread on this topic so I can only guess this is either a non-critical bug or by design. [&:]

Also, would it be possible to keep losses incurred by conquered countries on the report? Perhaps in a different color to indicate they are no longer a combatant.

A total summary line for all losses dealt and incurred would also be nice to have someday... [&o]

Thanks!

What do you mean by tally up properly ? I can't see any problem the way it's summarized. With my games, a conquered nation is removed from the report too. If you're complaining about how it's presented, I must agree though. Something more like the ledger style in HoI, with a full screen presentation, would be much more appreciated, imho. I'd also like to see a report for the events directly affecting my country too.

Every game I have played only tallies (adds) losses from air and ground combat (or combination thereof). No naval losses are ever added to the report. No aircraft losses resulting from naval combat are ever added to the report. My meaning of 'properly' is just that. Why are those losses not accounted for?

EXAMPLE:

A repeatable example can be found by playing Germany 1939. Bombing the Polish airfield into oblivion near Warsaw gives you 4 points dealt and x number losses depending on how many aircraft points you may have lost (in this example zero). Next, bomb the Polish naval unit (in the Baltic) and destroy it. The report still states 4-0 from the airfield attack but it should show 5-0 to account for the naval unit destroyed IMHO.

If you lose any aircraft bombing the naval unit those losses do not appear in the report either.

In my opinion, the abstract of points lost should not only accurately reflect all losses but also be "weighted" to the actual cost of the point destroyed/lost (i.e. German aircraft point = 12 PP etc.) Otherwise it seems a little gamey when trying to gauge exactly how much damage has been inflicted/received.

Still I don't understand. When a naval battle occurs, you have a visual report of it then, on the Report screen, you have each confrontation reported (battles at sea, raiders, convoy, and so on). Same thing with the aerial operations (air strikes, air combat). Of course, it could be more detailed but I'm not sure that's what your asking for, is that it ?

Maybe you're talking about a summary of the number of ships sunk and aircraft downed ? If that's what you're asking for I'm with you on that [:)] But I'm not sure it would add anything to the gameplay proper.

Perhaps we are getting confused by the screen I am trying to refer to. It is the "Losses" screen on the reports.

Attached is the screen where I have destroyed 4 Polish aircraft and 1 Polish ship.

I took 1 aircraft lost.

It shows 4 Losses dealt and 1 taken while I believe it should show 5 Losses dealt. And had I taken an additional aircraft loss during the naval airstrike it would not show it. This screen is supposed to summarize all losses is it not? Maybe the designers only intended it to show land related losses but that seems odd to me since a land unit lost at sea during amphibious operations do not appear on this screen either.

Thank you for the discussion though. I'm just trying to figure this out and understand if it is working as intended.

Hi there.

Well, I think there's confusion around here [:D] The "Losses" report doesn't totalize the material losses at all. It's all about "Strengh points" here ! As you can tell by considering there are decimals taken into account. The reason why you see only four losses instead of the five you expected is (I guess) because the total Strengh lost by the polish forces was actually four points.

Can someone from the staff correct me if I'm wrong ?

It has been proposed that another report could show PP lost, rather than just SP.

Another anomaly is that disbanded units do not affect the loss report. I think the PP approach, each loss reflecting the cost in PP to replace that unit, at its current tech level, would be a great report.

not from what I have seen, I have slaughtered a number of ships and didn't get anything added to the losse report

(as posted, look at the report, then do a number of naval attacks, then look at the report again, it is still the same as it was)

OK, I see what you mean but personally, I didn't feel the lack of detailed report while playing. Each time a sea battle occurs I can clearly see when I lose a ship (an I lose a lot as I'm playing Italy...). Though, as I said, it would be better to have something more detailed, organized and easy to read.

Actually, the thing I'm currently wondering about is the reason why, while playing as Italy, I don't have a single ST point to spend (and yes, I still have ships afloat over the Mediterranean sea [:D] ) ?!
