1st I would like to say WOW what a awesome game TOS is, even more so since it is free v1.4. I Have been glued to this game for that last 2 days and I'am still learning a lot of things on how to play and build mechs.
1st Question I had was when you know a Mech is about to blow "engine blowout" And you are standing in the same hex whats the best thing you can do? Running I noticed took 18sec. I was wondering if kneeling or maybe hitting your jump jets "only 5 sec 30yrds up) would help or make it worse? Might be able to get 2 blasts of jump jet off before it blew for 60yrds in the air would that help lesson damage or cause you to REALLY go flying for the worse :/ .
2nd was Regarding Warring Suns. ONE of my Favorite Love/Hate things about Tos v1.4 is the building of your char. & Team and not having the ability to save them if one or all of them die. It really Add's a lot to the game knowing that you cannot reload if your chr dies or the mission goes badly. Please Please Please keep it this way in Warring Suns Commercial release.
Other then that going to keep practicing and building my team. And thanks all for any help.
btw Any Other Guides out besides the Manual's that came with the Download? Would love to get my hands on as much as I can.

First, thanks for trying out TOSv1.4. We think its a pretty great game ourselves and are glad that Vicious Byte and Matrix Games can offer it for free.
Answer to Question1:
The Engine will blow for only a few reasons. ONe is if the location where the engine is located is destroyed. The most common places for the Engine are the Central Torso(CT) and the Central Back Torso(CBT) so if these are destroyed then an engine explosion can occur. One other way for the engine to explode is overheating. If the heat reaches 300C then it WILL blow. Called shots to the CT/CBT make avoiding these areas getting destroyed next to impossible. Your only chance is to:
A) Don't put yourself in a position where these locations will be destroyed.
B) Destroy your enemy before this tragedy happens. Targeting their CT's is a good idea but try not to be to close when this occurs or you'll be caught in the explosion.
C) Do whatever you can to reduce your enemies %chance to Hit. Dodging, Shields, Heavy Cover and other tactics can help a little.
The main idea is to reduce your enemies ability to destroy you while maximizing your ability to destroy them.
Answer 2:
There are 9 save spots and an autosave in TOS:warring suns for those players that don't like seeing their squad die without any way to try and rewrite history.
You don't have to use these save slots if you prefer the old way to play. You can always 'resurrect' your squad by spending $500,000. These seem to be the best of both worlds for us. You can save your team or play dangerously. Its all up to you. But if all else fails you can purchase your team back if you have the funds. Sometimes its a bargain.
There are some helper manuals and we are currently putting up a new Vicious Byte website. It will take 1-2 weeks but when its up it will be:
http://www.viciousbyte.com
We will have all sorts of goodies for players so be sure to check it out.

There's only one thing that might help you against an engine explosion, and that's a shield. If it is on, it'll reduce damage, heat and radiation taken from the blast. But you better have it on, cause you won't have time to toggle it on - you won't have time for anything in fact. If the opposing jock fails the damage control check, explosion is instantaneous (end of game sec).

make sure that at least one of your jocks has a good business skill. Purchasing Titans will be cheaper thus saving you money. A jock with high Damage repair should reduce the cost of repairs/maintenence after battles. There are a lot of things that help saving money. Remember money not spent is money saved.

Yes, you get more money by playing harder AIs. You might also get more skill points but this is only for doing more move skill checks or healing checks cause the AI is hitting better.
