Problems and Suggested Fixes

Post by gdrover »

First let me say that I love this game. It's the most detailed, yet playable game covering WW2 in Europe that I have ever played. Nice work!

That said, there are still several issues that should have been worked out in playtest. I hate paying $40 + shipping only to find out that I am playing an unfinished game and have essentially paid to be a playtester. Given that this game is so big, and given that I will be playing it for years to come, I am willing to overlook it on this one. My only hope is that patches come out quickly and regularly. So, to that end, here are the issues that I have come across so far. I played the 1939 grand campaign as Germany and Italy.

Problem 1: Gibraltar is not able to be captured except from Spain. Because it is a 'Mountain', and NOT coastal (what?), I was not able to capture it with paratroopers (falschirmjeager), or an amphibious invasion...despite the fact that I had eliminated the unit guarding it via air strikes. So I ended up capturing the entire UK, Malta, Egypt, Palastine, Iraq, and Kuwait, but England refused to surrender!!! (I had refused England's offer of conditional peace offer since by the time they offered it, I had already over-run all of the UK and was heading to Cairo with an overwhelming force).

Solution 1a: Make Gibraltar a coastal hex!
Solution 1b: Allow paratroopers to land in mountains (perhaps they take extra casualties)

Problem 2: I invested every Diplomatic Point that I got (Germany AND Italy) in trying to exert Pressure on Spain to join the Axis. Each time it was offset by the Allies pressure. The result was that Spain never joined. Because of the problem with Gibraltar (above), and the fact that Germany is not allowed to attack Spain as long as they are pro-axis, the war with England went on despite the fact that they were utterly defeated, had no troops, and no income.

Solution 2a: Allow Germany to attack anyone they want (they had no scruples in this regard, so they should not be limited the way that a democracy would be).
Solution 2b: Once a nation loses their capital, they may not perform Diplomatic Actions (for example: Once London is captured, Great Britain may not use any Diplomatic Points). Perhaps the conquerer should even get their DP's.

Problem 3: When I knocked out France, I didn't gain any Diplomatic Points. It seems like this event should be a big DP source.

Solution 3: Give DP's to the victor when a nation surrenders (The bigger the nation, the more DP's earned for defeating them). This would help model the accelerating effect that occurred when Germany went on its roll of conquest.

Problem 4: The text on the events is written in poor English.

Solution 4: Use a native English speaker to re-write the messages

Problem 5: After the form Ukraine event was triggered (I chose 'yes'), the game crashed.

Problem 6: The Income calculation screens flicker

1. Done for patch
2 and 3. I'm going to move arounf with those DP, but can promise will it come with the patch
4. I would rather call it simple english, we will try to improve it. (OTOH I think it's better than a game in Polish)
5. It's first time reported, do you have a save game maybe?
6. Working to get rid of that.

Thanks for the quick answers. So, when will the patch be ready? :)

I'm eager to take another whack at the grand campaign. When my game crashed in November, 1941 I had conquered England and France, and all of North Africa and the Middle East, and had just taken Leningrad. A German victory seemed likely.

How would I send you a save game file on the crash?

Cheers,

Glenn

The game automatically creates saves every turn (just after clicking "end turn"). Attach to the post or sent us zipped/rared autosave folder just before crash(please make sure that this will be correct autsave!)).

The patch will soon be given to betas and later, after week or two of testing, to other player. As I wrote in the other thread it will be in 2-3 weeks. The list of fixes/changes has more then sixty points including OoB, map improvments, AI tweaks, additional events and some more interesting changes in exe (like the one connected with planes).

Excellent. Thanks much.

I'll try to send you the save file, but I'm not very tech-savvy. :)

If you want, I'd be happy to re-write all of your event text into English. Just send me a Word file with all of the text and I'll do the proper translation for free.

not sure dps should be accumulated on conquest, for example German loss of stalingrad possiibly encouraged Turkey to stay neutral..
