Tarawa Campaign Snag...

The good news is I have finished the maps for the campaign (#3 needs just a little more tweaking :) ) and designed four of 6-7 nodes I had put to my storyboard.
Last night I began to assemble the campaign in the campaign editor. I typed up some of the battle result reports and what not...and then decided to try it out as it stood, just for the heck of it.
Anyway, I picked my forces ( it will be a Marine company for the campaign ) and their support ( amtacs ) and deployed them. When I started the battle I found to my amazement that the offshore naval support that I built into the first node was not present!
Instead of having a naval bombardment, I had to drive into the teeth of a relatively unscathed Japanese defense...and, needless to say, I got murdered!!! :(
Since this is really my first shot at a Pacific campaign...do I have to add additional support points for the naval support to be picked at each node/battles beginning? I would hope that there is a way to make the artillery set up in a scenario an AUX force just like the combat units. If there is, however, I haven't stumbled across it.
Any input from you pro's? I would like to get this puppy ready by the end of the week (next Friday was my targeted release date...with work and family figured in :D )

I had the same thing happen in a scenario I'm working on. The Russian rockets weren't firing. Turns out most of them had no ammo!

If only that were the case.
No, unfortunately my naval support that was built into the scenario's was not even listed on the Fire Support List...only the 60mm motars that were part of the Marine Battalions are listed when you play the campaign.
From the lack of responses...I'm taking it that the naval support will have to be bought via support points in each battle. I've read through the manual under artillery, scenarios, campaigns and came up with nada.
Not the end of the world I guess...just another step to account for. I've already gone back in and made allowances for it in the campaign I was testing out. :)
Oh yeah, for those of you who downloades my maps...Redleg brought up a point to me about some "freak" happenings that occur when oversized buildings and certain terrains "clash".
I have been going into each map and testing out the LOS from each large building...and found that three hills surrounded each one that cut of the LOS! Those errors have been corrected and I will continue to hunt these imperfections down...though a few will probably sneak by undoubtedly. Should anyone notice things like that please post them so I can take a look at them and get them ironed out for the final release.

I see no reason why you cannot purchase off-shore naval support as AUX troops.

Campaigns are definitely not my forte but I have seen off-board artillery used many times.

If you are attempting to use the destroyers, etc then they can only fire direct fire missions.

Perhaps I don't understand the problem.

If you guys haven't downloaded the Betio map, you are missing out of one heckuva fine map. The attention to detail and accuracy of what you see is just excellent.

Send me a private email - perhaps I can look at the scenario and understand the problem enough to help out. I will certainly try.

Redleg,
I too thought I have played a campaign where naval support was there as an AUX force...think it covered Omaha Beach.
I'm at work right now...on lunch...so I'll see if I can shoot the map off to you after I get home and spend some time with the family.
Outside of having to rush the beach without naval gunfire in support I think the first couple nodes played well....but hey, I may be a little bias ;)
I have "cured" most of the LOS problems with the buildings...now I'm working on some of the terrain issues. Those issues aside, all in all it's starting to really coming along.
Thanks for the recognition of the map...my aim was to get it as real as possible...and I think I did pretty well. :D Thanks again for your input.
OK, back to the grindstone. More later.
