You have to disband the ones you can't withdraw. I couldn't find it, but apparently it's in the manual.

When I disband them I will loose all pilots and airframes.....

And at this stage of the war I really NEED airframes....

It's either that or pay the PP cost.

The withdrawals do have their hit-and-miss applications. Considering the efforts the US made to ship fighters to Australia early in the war, they probably wouldn't have withdrawn that one.

7.2.2  When you disband or withdraw a unit normally the planes go to the pool but can take up to 7 days to arrive in the pool.  According to the manual when you force disband due to withdrawal date you lose planes and pilots as they are transferred to another theater or reformed into another unit.  Because you loose pilots from the unit and I assume the commander I would switch out the commander before disbanding.  If you have any high skill pilots (85%+ for the Allies 80%+ for Japan), I would send these to training command before disbanding as well.  Even if you don't need the training command pilots they will be freed up some point in the future and can be reassigned to combat so you don't lose that skill.  If you think this is gamey boy do I have stories I can tell you of items we had to ship to other units.

In fairness this particular unit is based at San Francisco if the screenie is anything to go by. 55th Pursuit Squadron is about to depart for Wilmington, North Carolina, and will later make a name for itself shooting up trains - but not in the Pacific :)
