Kosigan vs. FatFlint

The opening night of the battle I was able to use a rushing tactic. In the darkness it worked, as you can see from the screen cap it did'nt work so good in the daytime.
I thought I'd done well on this map on the night turn but I was wrong, dead wrong.

I set up in the hedge right above the road to St. Mere Eglise with three teams on ambush. Sure enough Kosigan sent out a unit to take the waypoint and it was promptly slaughtered. So far, so good.

Then Kosigan started a mortar barrage behind me to my north, to flush me out. I did'nt realize he was flushing me out and I though he was under manned. "Who fires a mortar barrage that close to their own team?" Someone desperate I thought. I was dead wrong.

He quickly dispached each and everyone of my units and started the long grind of breaking my mens will to fight.

Lesson learned. Rarely place units on ambush in positions that are under 30m of expected contact unless it is a lone team hoping to defend against an assault. In night battles, always use Defend so they will fire at anything. Your three teams probably would have held their ground even under the mortars if they had been on Defend. You were on the receiving end of the principle of Violence of the Attack.

Another round of battles. I was unable to take much ground anywhere. Kosigan is a great defender, his large guns inflicted so much damage it was unbareable. His use of trenches is also brutally intelligent.
We also had our 1st dropped game due to my internet taking a dive.

The attached cap speaks for it's self. Kosigans attack went terribly wrong and somehow his attackers surrendered to my vehicle crew. Glory. To bad they got slaughtered seconds later. Misery.

Some fierce battles in this campaign. As you can see from the screencap below his 2cm Flak made me pay. I was unable to secure much, if any, of Pointe Du Hoc. This aa gun is part of the reason that I'm having such a hard time getting a foothold on this map.

man lookin at these AARs, allies are having quite a hard time. in my current h2h, at the end of the 1st day i have pretty much 95% of the map... the beaches were the easiest maps because all the at guns, even when in bunkers, die so easily. i lost probably one tank on the beaches. my team mate isnt bad, but i dont know

one thing i have noticed is that panzerfausts suck bad. even at 10m range they miss, and if they hit they never do any damage. haha

I'm having a hell of a time attacking. This being my 1st H2H I feel I'm doing okay, not great but okay. I definatly could be doing alot better.
Everyone else seems to have a much better time with finding the big guns then I do. I almost never see them till after they have killed/crippled one of my tanks.

Great campaign, Kosigan and I are going at a brisk pace and the fighting is intense.

The fighting is definitely intense.  I have never been good at attacking in the CC games, but during this campaign I have learned some good lessons.  Our last battle involved my Falschmijagers (sp?) against some heavily fortified paratroopers.  While still suffering rather substantial casualties, I was able to gain some ground and inflict some pretty heavy morale losses on Flint's paratroopers.

I wish I had some screen caps - I'll do better on this in the future...AAR's are fun stuff - but I was able to do some pretty decent distraction while sneaking multiple teams around his flank.  I was surprised how well heavily reinforced assaults do against defense; I notice as long as your leaders are in the thick of the fray with the rest of your men, they advance at a good pace and do a great job at knocking out the enemies' defense (good suppression definitely helps).

Will post my own screencaps as the campaign advances.  We just had some armored units meet one another at Benouville.  I have the majority of the VPs on the map, but I lost an assault gun and more men in the process - no actual tanks lost by either of us so far.

the thing with guns is, as soon as they fire you will spot them, no matter what (unless its night, then u gotta use a flare to see them at a distance). so if you bait them with a tank or some infantry, as soon as they fire you can smoke them then begin to take them out. the best thing to use to take them out is another gun, if theyre in a bunker or a house, but tanks tend to take out guns in houses decently also. otherwise ur gonna have to assault the gun with infantry

also make sure you concentrate your attacks, so you can overwhelm. i usually have a main attacking force, then a secondary force which can come around the flank

Beach maps are no joke I'd say. I love having those bunkers to put my AT guns in. You have to wiggle them around a bit to make sure you have some overlapping LOS, but they are pretty much safe from mortars, naval barrages, and (mostly) enemy tanks.

We had one map where 7 tanks were firing on a single 5 cm gun in a bunker. Took nearly five minutes for the AT gun to get smoked. If it had been a bigger gun, i might have taken out all the tanks - who knows!

Day 2 and we are mostly off the beach, so it is tougher now as all I have are regular buildings to use for cover, but then it is just a matter of knowing when to fight and when to let the allies run past you.

What time limit? We play 20mins for non-beach maps, 15 mins on the beach, playing longer would certainly make it easier for the Allies to advance faster on the strat map.

But if you have 95% of map on day one, either you are one of the best CC players or your oppoenent is indeed not good. I just can't see how you could advance that fast in 15 or 20 mins.

30mins, but force morale always breaks before then. perhaps its just a fluke that ive been able to kill the guns so easily

Once Kosigan finds a fixxed gun of mine it's dead not long afterwards. I tend to not be so fortunate.

This would be the end of the 5th turn I believe. The night battles cost me pretty bad. Sometimes I love the night battles and sometimes they make me cry.

Hello guys,

Nice too see your AAR. What settings are you guys using (time, other options?).

By looks of your progress as allies you are doing real good. Already a minor victory at just the 25% mark, amazing. How are you setup for the next 3 days with armor? I see you tank losses after one day are running a little high at 41, but that may or may not be a issue depending on were you lost them, since a lot of the BGs have around 10. You look to have pretty much taken out all of jerrys at-guns from the beach maps with 22 kills, that will pretty much make dealing with thous BGs later a lot easier and limit your tank losses considerably down the road.

You definitly are kicking butt in the GJS area compared to what ive been able to do there. Taking Basly, if I see that correct is great, because it offers a good entry point into Caen. You have also gotten Merville, another tuff spot to take.

You've got all your beach maps looking good too. Probably looking to break out into the Omaha sector at this point?

You also have Utah sector under control, I take ready to press on toward Carentan.

Unfortunately I can not get Bob to commit his tanks into battle (as 24 to 7 loss rate shows) as jerry very offen. I can only remember a few times whens hes used them on assault, basically he keeps them back for infanty support, which makes getting to them almost impossible and constanlty stalls any infantry advanaces.

Keep up the posting...

Gz...
