Convoy Routing

Hi-Playing Allies, scen.1, 12/41.
I have unescorted AK-AP TFs from US to PH-Midway. Yes, I'm aware of potential danger.
If I set the TFs' routing to "safest" will that TF take evasive routing when enemy SS appear to be able to intercept? I.e., if the TF is 20 hexes from SFO and X# of hexes to PH, will the TF alter course to avoid enemy SS on it's own inititive? Or, do I have to check each TF per day to see if there is any danger?
