I thought I saw somewhere that xAKs, beign civilian cargo ships, can't conduct landing/amphib operations. If thats true, then how is it IJN xAKs can conduct amphib ops, but not the US xAKs?

I had a series of turns the other night where an IJN TF consisting of nothing but xAKs landed at & seized Ocean Is, yet when I try to land the 4th Marine Def Btn to retake Canton Is from an xAK and an AK, nothing happens. I have a bombardment TF of CAs/CLs/DDs pounding Canton but the TF with the Marines won't unload.

BTW, I forgot to mention the IJN TF of xAKs also conducted its own shore bombardment during the landing operation.

They can do it because the Jap xAK's have the ability to convert part of their cargo space to troop space, as they did historically.

Japan starts the game with about 6-7 AKs and no APs. The rest are all x-ships (!).
You can land troops with x-ships (at least as Japan, didn't try Allies) but I guess unloading is not as fast as with AKs or APs.

An amphib. TF with escort (warships) will automatically pre-bombard any landings.
