Minor Garrison limit guideline

Hi all
in the interim, before there is a coded fix for the minor garrison limits, does anyone know how many garrisons can be placed in total? If we assume all the corps/fleets/depots/cossacks/leaders are in play, how many free spots for garrisons are available before the unit limit is reached?
If divide this number by 7, then we get a rough idea of how many garrisons can be placed by each player before the limit is reached. This could be a interim guideline that could be used to prevent games from hitting the unit limit.

A related question is

Is the garrison limit based on the number of places with garrisons, the total number of factors in garrison, or both?

I believe the current system is based on the number of locations (cities) where garrisons can be placed.  So when you place more than one nationality in a single city you have now caused there to be one city where you will not be able to garrison.  So leaving minor garrisons takes a spot, different minor country garrisons take multiple spots.

A quick fix as you play is to see where you have garrisons and if no longer needed (you conquered a minor and dropped a garrison - later freed it and now it has its own factors there) you can either send a corps to pick it back up - or remove it during the reinforcement phase by hitting the gold X basically killing off (disbanding) the units.

The actual limit is based on the number of cities on the map BUT it was based on the original design spec of only one garrison per city!
We will have to look to change this BUT again we must pay attention to the existing games so that this change will go to the existing game (if we reasonably do this???)!

Odd design-spec, you got 7 MP's, so technically 6 allies could each have a garrison in each city... not just 1 garrison pr city.

With minors able to garrison, you have closer to 30? Posibble garrisons pr city.

Im very much in favor of minors able to garrison outside home btw.

Marshall some limits, like how pbm-battles work(till the security gets fixed, or how to select commander for multi-stack, non shared pps, and other stuff), show mistakes made back in the design phase, fixing bad design takes alot of extra coding giving you alot of extra work now.

I do so hope Matrix-games improve the design phase.

Bresh:

I cannot pin this on Matrix! This is me. This was the design BEFORE it became EiANW. This goes all the way back to my original design for "The Wars of Napoleon". I clearly outlined that one garrison was allowed per city and technically even though there were 7 MPs you could still only have one garrison per city. Not an excuse, just an explanation.

I agree with your assessment about alot of code to fix design decisions and that is much of what I am doing (Making the game more EiA compliant) as I code.
