Singapore - TF Routes

I ordered a pair of subs to leave Saigon and head past Singapore to interdict shipping around Rangoon - not a big deal. 2 turns after the order, I got messages that they hid mines in Singapore and sunk. Now why would subs transit that close to Singapore that they would hit mines. I would think the routing would make sure they did not cross into such dangerous waters unless it was the only way.

Is this my dumb luck, or something wrong with the routing code ?

No, nothing is wrong with the routing code. And you did get some bad luck.

The Singapore area is a bitch, but submarines will try and pass through there while the enemy still hold bases. Look at that area closely. Where else would they go - south of Sumatra?

You can always use routing.

Ok. I will pay more attention to their paths from now on. I think only this particular area would cause such problems.. just makes ya mad to lose 2 good subs in such a way.

Thanks for the fast reply...

You probably had the subs set for direct routing.

Check and see - if the subs are still afloat.

I had a similar experience with subs at Singapore. I don't have a problem with it, because I can manually route the subs around the Singapore minefields.

After I had a sub badly damaged by mines at Singapore, it was crippled, and automatically set a destination (Saigon I think). At the time, the enemy holds Singapore, but I control the rest of the penisula. I wanted to set a destination for the closest base, as this sub was not going to survive long. I set it to Mersing. The next turn, the destination was automatically reset back to Saigon. The work-around that I finally got to work was to set a waypoint to Mersing, and leave the destination Saigon. It then moved to Mersing, where I disbanded and saved the sub.

With a different crippled sub, the destination was set to Johore Baru. I controlled Johore Baru, but not Singapore. So the sub was headed right back into the mines that damaged it in the first place. Again, I used a waypoint to get the sub to where I wanted it to go.

Bottom line, use a waypoint to move a crippled sub to the destination of your choosing.

Each sub hit 2 mines - nothing left but a smear of oil. Yeah I have Direct routing as my default.
