hi all,
I'm working on a unit mod for the upcoming 1.51 patch, and would like some help.
I'm looking for some good images that can be used as silhouettes for the air counters. (I'll stick with Nato icons for land units).
Tac Bomber
Strat Bomber
Fighter.
at the moment I have a mosquito, lancaster and spitfire graphic but would like to find others. posts or links appreciated.

Do you intend to use different aircraft in each category for the increasing tech levels?
eg Brit: Spitfire - Level 1
Typhoon - Level 4
Meteor - Level 5

Suggest US Level 3 P-38 Lightning. My favorite and the best fighter at the time. distinctive shape. Just an all around cool plane.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-38_Lightning
The P-38 was the only American fighter aircraft in active production throughout the duration of American involvement in the war, from Pearl Harbor to VJ Day.
When you do the Pacific you must include the P-38 which was flown by America's Ace of Aces Dick Bong.
Go to the following if you want to download my 31 mission campaign following Bong's career. See if you can match his record of 40 kills. Bet you can't even against AI.

At this point I was only going to create a single set of generic silhouette air units to represent the three types.
It opens a tin of worms (arguments about plane strength levels etc), and turns a 3 unit mod into 15 individual unit mods, (just for air, excluding land) for
EACH active country.
Essentially I was boiling it down to...
- Single engine fighter
- Dual engine tac fighter/ bomber
- Quad engine strat. bomber
Also remember that the symbol resides on a COUNTER, I'm not into running miniatures on a map. (you will notice ALL the AAR's here are counters).
So the image will end up about 30x30 pixels.
I was after distinctive 'top view' profiles. Iconic shapes, spitfire, BF109e, Mosquito, Lancaster, B17 etc...

Just a suggestion but there is no more iconic top down shilouette than the Forked Tailed Devil P-38 and the best fighter bomber of the war.

Agent S,
I have a huge collection of excellent aircraft silhouettes which I have downloaded over the years. I would be happy to share them with you.
Two problems:
1. The folder is 572 megs, of course, if you can tell me exactly which types you want, I can just send those.
2. Most of the images are over 400 x 500 pixels, much too large for our purposes. If you have a way to reduce the image size and still keep the
images sharp and clear, then no problem. I have tried with ms paint and the results were not good.
Let me know if you are interested.

MS Paint is not very good for reducing size, IrfanView is much better and you can modify (resize, rename etc.) multiple files at once (Batch conversion)

Thanks Madmat,
It maybe be overkill at this point! As posted above, I'm after (at this stage) just 3 generic icons to represent all countries.
Fighter-Tac Fighter/Bomber-Strat.Bomber. I've gone with Spitfire, Mosquito, and B17.
(Only for the simple reason, that I built and painted airfix models of each of these, and they hung from my ceiling for about 5 years.)
attached is a work in progress for the 1.51 patch. It will give you a sense of direction I'm going here.
trying to just "keep it simple'.

The ships come via the brilliant mods being developed for war in the pacific.
(Those guys are insane...in a good way)[:D]

Looks nice, Agent. I will wait until the patch is out, cause I can't calculate the things as you do. I draw and check, draw and check. And for that I need the game.

The draw sits within the mask image provided by bleck.
The graphic part is finished.
I use the .csv file for image location and size tweaking. (back and forth, reload, text tweak reload...)
But until the patch is released...we wait!

H.,
possibly a little bigger.[;)]
as I said, I use the appearance.csv file to size and locate the components into a composite graphic in the game.
So really, the images could theoretically be much bigger. .png's scale quite nicely.
