JAP AI

After some turns vs “not-so-uber” new jap IA (currently 15 jan 42) I have found some strange behaviour in the “automatic jap high command”

- Japs must hate his merchant fleet. They not only launch most operations without any escort to speak of, but neither retaliates vs repetitive attacks, in philippines the PT boat TF starting in Manila was sinking every turn (at least every turn I remember to give the order) at least 3-4 transport ships in the northern landing sites. I based them in a little port NW of bataan, and they never recibed any air retaliation until they rebased to manila to rearm torpedoes

It may be that AI is coded so it almost ignores PT boats, as any ship near phi was obliterated in its way in or out of there but the PT boats have scaped unmolested to repeat its fate in sothern islands.

- Air attacks seems to concentrate in bizarre bases if you left a few undermanned air units there. Keeping safe the “best” targets . As an example after the few first days Singapore has not been the object of any air mission other than recon (3x 15 buffalos in cap) while the jap airforce is repeatedly smashed nearby airbases whith a pair of buffalos and half a dozen bombers sitted there.

In the other hand IJN subs are much more dangerous than I remenbered from “raw” witp, chosed quite wisely his objetives and zones of deploy, and are more difficult to eliminate.

I am in January 1942 as allies in the campaign game. The IJ AI after sweeping everything else in Malaya away, has now concentrated on bombing Singapore into ruin. I have been forced to move my air assets south.

I have a small float plane detachment in a dutch base roughly opposite the middle of the strait however the AI isnt bombing the airfield there, its hammering my garrison units at that base.

I started a new CG with the beta patch installed; PT boats are toned down some and surface combat now requires visual sighting to initiate (no radar directed gunnery in 42).

However, my PT boats and 4 old DD's are holding off the Philippine invasion by themselves!  I've positioned three squadrons of PT boats (one is MTB from Hong Kong) along the NW coast of Luzon, plus the DD's.  They attack any invasion fleet trying to enter Vigan or the other coastal hexes, and either sink some ships or the TF's run away.  It helps that a sub torpedoed CL Kinu some time ago; apparently her covering force has withdrawn because the transports refuse to enter any hex where my ships are now.  It's late December and the AI just got around to landing at the northernmost part of Luzon (had to withdraw the PT's to rearm).

In other areas, the AI's army is pushing down the Malay peninsula, and has landings all over northern Borneo.  A surface force is parked in Davao but there's no invasion TF.  Both Repulse and PoW have successfully repaired and retired from Singapore long before the city is invested, and a light surface TF sank Chiyoda while she was supporting one of the Borneo landings.  I have no idea where the KB has gone to; last I saw of them they had bombed Johnston Island on the way back from hitting Pearl (2 BB's sunk, every BB and cruiser badly damaged).  Rabaul just fell but I am reinforcing Port Moresby with BF's and infantry, plus lots of supplies.

I realy expect patch tones them down (I didn´t instale Beta), My Phi PTs even were able to escape from manila, repeated the feat at Balikpappan and by now are renewing the AK hunting at Batavia (after quick refit at Soerabaja)...... I am SO impresed that two more PT forces seat in lunga ...with same result, short obliteration of wouold-be-invaders of tulagi
