Damaged ships and TF

I know you wouldn't normally do this but in an emergency any old ship would be utilised in an eveacuation. I have two ships with over 40 system but less then 10 float (all major) and eng damage but I cannot create a transport TF with them. All you get is support and escort. What's the thinking behind this please.

Only "operational" ships are allowed into normal TFs. Operational includes level of damage and repair state. The intent is to not allow damaged ships into operational TFs.

You hae a valid point in that an experienced player should be able to decide what ships to use. However the AI and some novice players need this protection.

Some sort of option or work around might be a good idea, but the list is rather crowded right now and it just can't be addressed in the near future.

An Emergency or Evacuation TF might be an interesting option that could allow everything, (regardless of damage, etc.) into a TF that serve the sole purpose of "getting the hell out of Dodge".

Even PT boats could get a minimal 1-2 squad troop capacity (so McArthur can get away). Loading cargo and fuel would not be allowed, only troops without equipment. It would be very useful and appropriate for those "Dunkirk Moments"

That's an escort TF

Too open to abuse.

Excellent. Thanks for the heads-up on the escort TF bit. I'd always used that in the "Title Role" and hadn't noticed that it was possible to load troops.

As for the PT boats having a carrying capacity, I'm not quite sure how you could abuse a 1-2 squad capacity. Certainly not on the Japanese side where they have only a handful of them. I think the allies did use PT boats in some non-traditional roles for getting Spec Ops types onto islands. They would, of course, die on any defended island, but they could be used to take an ungarrisoned one, which would not be unrealistic.

How would you see that being abused?
