ok, as he Axis player I have taken Paris and all of the French VP cities. The Maginot is isolated, YET France fights on!!
What gives? This is very ahistorical.
What am I missing?

Gents - thus far, despite my overwhelming success as the Axis player, I have NOT been 'offered' Vichy!
As a long time Europa player and fanatical history buff I must say that I am surprised at any reference to a need to also capture France's North African or Middle-Eastern vps.
This bears no semblance to reality or hypothesy.
Historically, France surrendered when the Maginot was surrounded and Paris had fallen.
Please clarify.

Leeds,
I have one time had that happen to me also, the Vichy event did not fire off for some reason. However you are NOT required to capture the N. Africa nor Middle East VP cities.
You can look in the thread mentioned above for the exact requirements as there are some and/or sort of things.. but in order for Vichy event to fire you must capture the following cities (you don't need all of these, you need some certain combinations of them.. see the mentioned thread for ther exact logic)
Paris
Lille
Metz
Tours
Caen
Nantes

I believe that Amsterdam and Brussels also have to fall to trigger Vichy. Leeds, that is one of the typical causes for no Vichy. (At least it used to be.)

I have taken Amsterdam and Brussels and all VP cities in continental France and still France fights on!
Not only that but the BEF has now landed close to Brittany.
Very strange!

Have you taken Nantes, not a VP city, but crucial if you are seking a Vichy state?

Whatever, all this shows again that the Vichy rules are ludicrous and should be redone...[:(]

The standard rule for this game is a total conquest of enemies. If you wish to have historical events, a historical circumstances needs to occurs.
There is a reason why we have made the game such moddable. You can create your own vision.

Gentlemen, I fear that this is going to be the final word on the Vichy problem, no matter how ahistorical the results are.
The developers are amazingly responsive to community desires, but there hasn't been the kind of groundswell of community desire for change that would be needed to convince them to rethink their position.
I hope you enjoy the results. I will seak a cease-fire and armistice on the subject.

Problem is that the current game event is pretty far from historical. France was not "harder" to conquer than other countries, in fact it was rather the reverse, and in no way the French could have "refused" anything once beaten !
And as it is also not documented and very hard to understand, it is eventually broken...

If I understand the maps correctly, this is how German troops get to before Fall of France:

That's right, but misleading. Things were mostly decided by the 14th when Paris was taken, except in the South vs Italians, and no organised force opposed the Germans even since the 9th. On the 17th Petain publicly demands cessation of hostilities. So most of the last 10 days was kind of mopping up and territory-taking by the Germans.
The really important things to decide surrender should be that Paris and any major French port west of it are taken; then you can have some delay or randomness for Vichy, but allowing Allies to continue sending suicide French to weaken the Germans is just gamey.
