Question about installing PZW/PZK?

I haven't installed either yet on this PC. I have PZW on CD and PZK via download.
Now, I need to install PZW first to unlock the PZW content hidden in PZK. (I read that somewhere.)
My question is this. Do I need to keep PZW installed after that to have access to PZW content in PZK? Or can I uninstall PZW? (In other words, is the check made just during PZK install or each time you run it?).

PS: Wouldn't this have just been simpler to just have included a second serial number check where you had to enter your PZW serial number while installing PZK?
