In a 154 game season has Pittsburgh already taken the National League?

Usually both leagues have a parenthetical magic number, which changes to "clinched" when a team clinches.  Did a magic number ever show up next to Pittsburgh?  If the number never changed to clinched, that's one problem; if there was never a number to begin with, that's another.

I don't think a magic number ever showed up next to Pittsburgh. It looks to me like there's no way that Cincinnati can catch them. Maybe they clinched the pennant too early in the season to trigger the magic number countdown. Does anyone know at what point in this game the magic numbers show up, and what the maximum is they will be? I can't recall that I've ever seen a magic number above 20, and maybe it only starts checking for this at a certain date, by which Pittsburgh may have already clinched, so no magic number or 'Clinched' designation was given.

What does that mean? I don't think I understand. What should the situation be? If Pittsburgh had clinched the division in August, would I have seen any thing? At this point, I think that even if Pittsburgh loses every game they are still going to the World Series. Again.

Ok, I went ahead and did that and now it has it marked as clinched. I'm going to go back a little bit and see exactly when they had it clinched. They are too dominant! At what point should we first see a Clinched or Magic Number designation?

For Wrathchild: the Pirates WERE a very powerful team in the first decade of the 20th century, winning NL pennants in 1901, 1902, 1903 and 1909.

For Wrathchild: the Pirates WERE a very powerful team in the first decade of the 20th century, winning NL pennants in 1901, 1902, 1903 and 1909.

In my league they won the World Series in 1904 and 1905 and have have never finished less than 3rd, I believe, when they didn't take the National League. Honus Wagner has been a major player for them.

I know KG, I just find it odd that this particular stat is in parens "( )". Never noticed it until now... No biggie, just struck me as odd. [;)]

You mean in Puresim, right? I know it's always been like this in PS, just can't find an example of anyone else doing it this way:

Right. I thought maybe yours looked different or something.

On a related note, in the replay posted here, Pittsburgh only clinched the pennant on September 5th. The last 4 games played were actually against Cincinnati and the teams split the wins, leaving Cincinnati with as few wins as possible and still having a chance to take the division. On the 5th, Pittsburgh was off and Cincinnati actually won their game against St. Louis. Unfortunately, without a loss by Pittsburgh this wasn't enough. This moved Cincinnati from 25 games to 24.5 games behind Pittsburgh, with only 24 games left to play in the season. So it was all over except the crying. So either this Pittsburgh team really rocks (currently .725 winning percentage for the season) or the rest of the teams really suck.

A personal note: I can't quite figure out why my two favorite historical teams are the Pirates and the BROOKLYN Dodgers, but part of it relates to the two ballparks, Forbes Field and Ebbets. In PureSim terms, I'm always torn between which of the two teams to manage. Of course, these two teams have many Hall of Famers, and also have a shared history of triumph and tragedy. I digress, as I often do, so I apologize.
