What role suits the AVD best ?

I use them as part of the convoy when I push out to develop bases in my supply route. Then I leave them behind as the local emergency ASW team; and to provide sea-plane support, of course. Base forces are scarce enough that it's really handy to have the tenders to take the pressure off once I start thinking about moving planes forward.

That's the plan, anyway.

I'm thinking of placing them at small islands near my supply routes and then bring in float planes for naval searches. Hope that can spot any raids the Japanese try to make well ahead of time

Since an AVD doesn't carry supplies, does the base it is stationed at needs some minimal amount to keep the float planes operating?

Probably, but a single xAKL can bring in supplies enough supplies to last a while.

(Assume 5 float planes flying a search mission per day, that's only 2 supply points expended per day, so even the smallest xAKL should give you approximatly one year and 4 months of recon flights)
