AE - multiple game & saves

There's an issue with multiple game saves, if your are playing a campaign 2 game, then switch to campaign 1, when you go back to play the saved campaign 2 game, the op, intel, & combat reports disappear for the first turn.
Example;
1. Campaign #2 saved on Dec 21st, 1941.
2. Go back a play a turn of Campaign #1.
3. Go back to a reload of the Dec 21st save game from Campaign #2, for the first turn there is no op, intel, or combat, report?

If you run a different turn, they are replaced with new ones.

The easy brute force solution is to use a different install for each game.

That's the issue, I shouldn't lose anything just because I have more than one campaign going!
Maybe each saved game should have it's own folder, so nothing gets lost! Each time you start a new game, it gets it's own folder, this way nothing gets lost or replaced.

That's what I've (almost) always done (and recommended) at least for PBEM. For AI I don't think it is necessary.

I think separate saved game folders are a better idea!

How about separate game folders? Each new campaign/scenario has it's own saved game folder, this is the way to go for PBM games, besides who wants to keep multiple game installs updated.

eaier way is to add the scenario to the file name E.g. S1 xxx, S2 xxx etc

There is an undocumented feature that I added to make it easier on players with multiple PBEM games.
This saves having to have multiple installs on your PC, using up tons of space.
It allows you to define a different set of directories to be used in a game.
Create a file called witp.ini in the install directory (eg c:\Matrix Games\War In The Pacific Admiral's Edition)
Within this file, you can define where the art, save and scen directories are found.
The actual directories in use are shown on various screens in WITPAE.
Use this to create a different save are for each of your PBEM games, and adjust the INI file to match before starting the game.
Sample file (attached also)
; All locations are from the WITP-AE install directory
; This file does not need to be present, but if present, is used to override the standard directory pointers
; Remove the leading ; from the line you want to use.
; Overriding location of save games. This is handy for multiple PBEM games where a separate directory can be set up for each game.
[Save]
Dir=save\joes
; Overriding location of scenario files. This is handy for modders when building games
[Scen]
;Dir=scen\test
; Overriding location of art directory. This is handy to test new art or to keep separate art folders
;[Art]
;Dir=copy of art

Now THAT's great!
With this nifty little tool I can easily separate different directories for testing purposes. And it seems to be a bit easier than re-naming directories.
Thanks [:)]

These report files are now stored in the save game.
If you had reloaded the campaign #1 save, it would have restored the reports for that turn.
I found it was better to save the reports, especially if a lot of games were being played at the same time.

who wants to keep multiple game installs updated.
That's part of the benefit of multiple installs - each game can be updated - or not (I actually prefer not to update games in process) as the players prefer. For me it would be difficult if not impossible to coordinate multiple game updates at the same time. And I might be playing Japanese in one and Allied in the other, then it is probably impossible to coordinate.
But multiple folders is "somewhere in between" and could be done, especially if no updates are contemplated. Then the "multi-update" issue will not intervene.

I actually followed all the discussion above, but I still feel a little dizzy.

Maybe I am destined to stick to one game at a time. [:D]

me too! [X(]
I have had up to five PBEMs going simultanieosly and always sidestepped the problem by ALWAYS finishing a turn and sending it on after running the combat. If you do this, the problem never occurs. And if for some reason you ever do switch games in midstream, you can also quickly workaround the problem by re-running the combat.
To be honest, I have to admit that the reason I always did that was because I would get totally confused as to which game was doing what if I tried to switch.

I have always sent all the necessary saved files from each game to a separate game folder before unzipping the next into the WitP or AE SAVE folder. Takes a couple of minutes, but saves the confusion.
Vista (please hold the hissing and boos -- Windows 7 is coming) has a "Saved Games" folder that is a handy place to put those saved games. As long as youi use a separate folder for each game you can have multiple games with same opponent, etc.
