why does it take so long for the stats to save after a game? Is there something that can be done?

Yeah, I've always wondered that. It takes a long time to simulate just one game even with the 'animate ball' option off. I do ALT-TAB from the game and go into Task Manager and set the Maximum Football .exe file to run at High Priority. That seems to help a little.

Thanks for the advice bbmike.  I'll have to try that.  I am running a large league, and I have been leaving my computer to chug through the 20 or so games after the human controlled games are done.  It can take upwards of an hour sometimes.
