Kyushu Cargo, conversion available from April 42, 360 days delay
Husimi Cargo, conversion available from May 42, 360 days delay

The Japanese also have 2 ARs available at the start of scenario 1.

Not much help when playing the Allies.

Doing a quick check the Allies have 3 ARs at the start of the game and get 17 more (plus 5 ARDs). I haven't found any AK conversions though (yet).

As I understand it, there are no more allied conversions from AK to A{whatever}.

I went through the Allied ships at start and found none eligible for conversion to ARs. However, there are the following available:

xAK C2 Cargo Class - AE
xAK Dominion M Cargo Class - xAP
xAK Harriman Cargo Class - AKE
xAK Hog Island Cargo Class - AKE
xAK Isthmian Carg Class - AG
xAK Pacific L Cargo Class - xAP
xAK Transmarine Cargo Class - AG

In stock the AR was one of my most important class of ship. Seeing as how the AR and ARD are the only tenders that can repair hull damage they are even more important. So all can say about not being able to convert is bug----.[;)]

I put my AR's in large ports that do not have shipyards; doing so appears to help speed up pierside repairs.  Keeping them in a port with a shipyard may help but the improvement is so small it makes more sense to move these "floating repair bases" somewhere they can provide a lot more impact.  A small shipyard like at Surabaya or Perth may benefit from an AR as well.

Flooding is treated entirely differently in AE over WITP. No more continuous flood damge while at sea once the minor flooding is stopped. and minor flooding is easy and fast to fix in any port you can disband into (obv not on 90+% but you get my drift. MAJOR flood damage however only get fixed at repair yards, ARD's and AR's (max 5 pts on an AR. For example a badly hurt CA at truk with major flood at 50% (auto sink in witp if at sea) so long as minor flooding is elimated, you can sail her back to japan and she'll likely make it barring accidents.

Differant game , differant solution to problems , don't think WITP normality translates over automatically.

and good luck

Yeah, ARs are important. That’s why they are so limited. Japan get the opportunity to convert a bunch, but it takes a year, and if she does so, she will get well and truly screwed in many other categories.

So, it’s a very careful thought process as to converting one or two; and a crap shoot whether that was effective or not.

Sure, you can convert them all to ARs, and you can end up with more than the Allies, but you just lost 80% of Japans amphib capable ships, and it will take you a year, in which time you have neither.

Think. Conversion is an “option” that caries its own penalties. Conversion is for the thoughtful. Conversion is for the risk takers. Risk implies a non-linear gain benefit, at the expense of a non-linear loss. Think, before you leap.

I've also found out that AS Platypus upgrades to AR in 4/44

I refrain myself to convert a lot of things in my PBEM for the reason explained.

But it's human to convert everything: As conversion is a new feature compared to WITP, the natural trend is to try to convert a lot of things, we are like a kid playing with his new toys at Christmas [:D].

Conversion is an option. It is just like a new toy.

If you never convert anything, the game plays out just like WiTP.

Conversion is for the serious grogs. If you start converting, we think you know what you are doing, so we will let you die, if that's what happens.

Conversions are a very, very, very, thoughtful process. You may have 100 in the box, ready to go, but if you convert them all, to whatever, you are screwed. Conversion needs to be thought of as 6 months beforehand, to satisfy a requirement 6 months behindhand.

You must. simply must, think in terms of what your operational requirements will be a year from now, before you start "converting".
