Soviet Mortar Squad Q:

I was just wondering why Soviet mortar squads don't seem to be able to fire direct. I've been able to roll up to, and into the hexes where Soviet mortar squads reside, and overrun them, and they just sit there. I'm not complaining, just curious.

I guess I've been lucky. I've lost units to indirect fire, but, so far, nothing to direct fire. I was asking mostly about op fire. I'm pretty carefull about approaching Soviet artillery, unless my arty has given them a taste of Krupp steel first, in any case. Perhaps that's why I've been so fortunate.
Thanks for the info General!

Hello all,
Just wanted to add that from my observation it's not just the soviet morter, but all countries' morter behave the same way. From past experience I've had my own morter accidentally "discovered" by an approaching enemy and got shot at or killed without returning a single shot. Perhaps in real combat morter units aren't able to react quickly to approaching enemy?
