What is this game?

Hi, I have questions:
-Is this another hardcore WitP type game that requires a huge manual?
-How much will it cost?Looks like this is game that's going to cost an arm and leg to get like Admiral's Edition.
-Is this a world domination/Operational level type game?
-When will it be released?I'm intrigued by this title.
EDIT:I've never played the board game so bare with me here.

- define "hardcore"? never played WitP so can't say for sure, but I'm guessing it is not "WitP like", the manual is quite large
- TBD
- it is a one to five or six player game of WWII on a global scale using land, air and naval units
- TBD

I have played this game from 1st edition till Final edition with all the Flaming add on sets! Including the WWI set and the complete DOD I,II,and III. It IS the God of all WWII wargames especially if they can eventually include the political game. It is NOT WIP Admirals at all or even any of GG's fine efforts. It is truely a work of art all its own.

It is not WitP-like, to have play both, I would say that WiF while still a monster-game is playable, you won't go to the details of Witp. It is a hex, turn by turn, game of the scale of HoI if you want to compare. It is a simulation of WWII so you can say that this is a world domination game if you want (at corps level / one counter for a capital ship).
You should look at the screen shot.

- WiF is easy to play, hard to master.
- WiF is not a world domination game, you have objectives to fulfill which are not conquering the world. There are 67 objectives in the game, and you have to control a certain number as each Major Power of them depending of initial players bids to win or loose the game.

1. A lot, but still no final price tag.
2. Who knows. For a game in development for ~20 years, there is no firm release date. Probably somewhere around end of the year (this one not 2010).[:D]

These 20 years developpment are a myth.
The papergame was published in 1996, so it is 13 years ago.
The developpment of CWiF started about 2-3 years after and stopped fully in late 2003, and MWiF is light-years from CWiF, this is not the same product at all. the developpment of MWiF only started in mid 2005, and only went up to speed in 2006.

You can read about the gameplay and mechanics here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_in_Flames without too much detail.

I think psylon means from the very first edition of WiF to the present, Patrice.
Oh, and while I agree that the point of the game is not global domination, the Axis powers should start every game thinking they can and should attempt it.

That pretty much sums it up. As far as games that cover the entire WWII Campaign...it is in a league by itself.
Don't know how it will be playing the AI, but the replayability (don't know if that's a word or not...but you get the gist) against humans (multiplayer) is second to none.
As for your questions:
- It will look daunting at first but it is easier than it first appears. That being said we've played it for years and there are certain details that you learn each game. Looks like they have put a lot of work into the tutorials as well to make it that much easier.
- I would imagine the price won't be cheap relative to other games...but as I said earlier the replayability should avg. the cost per game out.
- Objective based.
- One day...hopefully soon.[:)]

Its the computer version of what is widely considered the best WWII Grand Strategy game ever made.
IMO, it does the best job of modeling the air / land / sea war of any game system I have seen and has had 20 years of rules refinement and play testing by thousands of players around the world to arrive at the closest thing to strategy game perfection I know of.
We do not know when it will be done. But we are quite certain it will be worth waiting for!

I just turned 43 this year. I have been waiting for MATRIX to finish MWiF for 42 of those years. This is just THE most anticipated game since the Spanish American War ended over 100 years ago. If I and my fellow gamers are lucky, we will be able to watch our great grand children play MWiF, while telling them we had hopes of the game being released before we dropped dead.
DREAMS.

Well, unlike Admiral's edition where I had other games to base it on and give some idea of the game, there's no other game to base World in Flames on so I'm afraid I'm going to pass without some kind of demo or gameplay video.Nothing much, just to give me an idea of the gameplay.Overall it looks like an interesting game.

I have completed 9 of the 11 chapters for the Training Video.
Though nothing definite has been decided, I will recommend that several of those WAV files be made available to the general public promotionally. For instance, the ones for movement and combat: air, land, and naval give a good sense of how the game plays.

Froonp,
Good points in your reply although the game has been around 24 TWENTY FOUR 24 years. I bought the first edition and still own it from 1985. I think you are correct that the computer variant was many years later. And how the game evolved scince its initial incepition, is absolutly unbelievable! I cant wait for it hopefully it will be able to be played via email, then let the games begin!

I would love to see how the first edition looked.
I only saw the 4/5 edition, in 1991, and nothing before that.
How was the map compared to the 5th edition one ? How were the counters compared to the 5th edition ones ?
What were the evolutions between all the editions ?

This would be very good IMO.

More questions:
-Please tell this game will support something higher than 1024x768.This one of my only gripes about of alot of matrix games, a good portion of them can't support the full glory of my Laptop's 17in Widescreen.
-What type of Multiplayer? TCP/IP or PBEM or both?
-Max number of players?

I posted these before (in June) but I am not sure in which thread. These are taken from the Players Manual (I revised some of this text earlier this week -but not enough to warrant retaking these screenshots).
