Getting Up To Speed

I bought WITP when it first came out and played a bit but never got really proficient. It's been so long, I'm basically starting over from scratch, like a new user. What's the best way to get started? Is the tutorial the best way or has someone put up articles or websites to help people get into the game? What about the numerous patches-is there an updated manual or will I be baffled by differences between my old docs and the current status of the game? Thanks in advance.

current version is 1.806 (at least that's the last upgrade i made a while back)
can download it from the main matrix site.
The manual isnt much to be trusted, better to run a search over here on the forum, most
things have been discussed over here, so an awnser should be found to about anything you'r looking for.
as a tutorial i'd suggest playing trough the solomon scenario (to get a hang of ground & naval movement and combat again) for a bit and then starting out a large campaign (scen 15 or 16, what was it again) against the AI.
after that you should be back in business
