Im working on a mod similar to Iron storm key features
-Army and Navy aviation is combined in a IJAF
-US helps China and provides more resources artillery , planes and tanks ( first via Vietnam later via Russia) . China is a more challenging theater. US advisers also learn more about the IJA in China. Based on the following what would the allied leaders do to respond ( besides having more tankers to ship oil to China)?
I have quite a lot of doco but here is a rundown.
Navy
Treaty rules are the same but Japan was allowed to complete 2 ships already under construction. I have spread sheeted all the slips and Japan has no real issue here. It has major issues with steel ( esp armour plate) and guns. Japan will limit the refits which took a ton of yard time.
BB Tosa and Kaga are built as BB under treaty tonnage. These and the Ise get Kongo style refits , one of the Kongos is destroyed for the London treaty. 2 Harima class BBs are build with scavenged turrets. Yamatos may be started in Jan 42. Instead of the Yamatos 37-41 Japans builds 2 CA , 2 cheap BB and 2 improved Soryu
CV Japan starts the war as historical but with an additional improved Soryu CV ( the 2nd comes early in 42) , The Taihos and following ships of the class s are build according to the original plan without all the delays , The Umruyus are replaced by converted escort carriers.
CA 4 Ibuki CA ( 2 from the Tones , 2 from Yamatos)
CL Katori class replaced and a new destroyer leader class.
DD As historical but the DEs Mutsu etc are built from 42 and some classess started a bit earlier.
SS No large subs are started during the war more focus on mass produced medium subs.
Airforce
Liz is available but with a terrible maintenance rate , there is a Val armored bomber to replace the Sonya.
Army
Major overhaul the IJA operated as brigades as such the Army is reorganised earlier ( after the disastrous shanghai battles vs Chang Kai-Sheks american divisions) and instead of going from 4 regiments to 3 they go to 2 regiment units. Basically all Japanese army units are standard Brigades ( First Line , 2nd Line , Militia , Mountain , Motorised and Armour ) There are Armour , AA , AT , Engineering units of regiment size. There are no smaller units. This will greatly help play as its a nightmare deciding how good each Japanese unit is. Note there is no increase in units or manpower it is just placed in Brigade sized units.
