Howdy, and questions

Post by Tony4245 »

Hi all,

I went from version 1.2 right up to this 3.2, so I missed a lot of stuff along the way, apparently (being in graduate school for a midlife career change will do that to ya, I guess!).

A couple of things I've noticed - all from the same game (playing Guadalcanal as Allied):

1. It seems that a lot of the Allied armored LCUs keep getting more AFV's until they're HUGE, I mean, we're talking like a size of over 3000...! Is this a bug, or what?

2. I have, on a couple of occasions, moved SEAC and CBI land units in to attack Japanese bases in upper Burma in early 1943. At least I thought I was, they would just sit there and no combat would be happening. They did manage to have readinesses of 99, though.[&:]

3. Same problem with sending a Brit surface group to bombard Akyab, which was the target set for Eastern Fleet - the computer kept scrubbing the mission. I didn't have a problem trashing Rangoon regularly, though.

4. The weirdest bit was after moving one of the US Army regiments off of Juneau, AK; a Japanese LCU spontaneously appeared there. Did the Japanese develop Star Trek transporters???

Thanks for any advice or help!

Greetings, and welcome to version 3.2!

That is correct - the Armored Bdes will add AFVs until they have 156 [X(]. They take a lot of APs to load. Interestingly, if you divide one, both units accept replacements, so the divided unit can reach the same size as the original - usually divided units don't get replacements.

If they are activated, they should attack - unless the game calculates the odds are too unfavorable, in which case the game calls it off.

Akyab is a strange base - I had one game where a group of MCS were there - tried getting them out with a transport TF but it would never move. Kind of a naval "black hole". Ground troops can march through, though.

Strange - but rarely a unit of the opposite side can show up - Marus can suddenly appear under allied control, or a squadron of jap aircraft. Appears to be some sort of bug.

OK, that makes sense, I s'pose.

That is probably it - be nice if there was some sorta message to that effect, though!

I should probably be grateful it wasn't LA, then, or Pearl Harbor [:'(]

Is there another update in the works?

It seems unlikely. Most computing efforts have moved on to Witp and AE. So version 3.2 may be the last, unless computer savvy fans can find a way to keep it running on the latest operating systems. A Linux version would be nice [:)] I know little of the coding of the original application, so I cannot say what may lie ahead.

Cheers, Skipjack

You need odds of 4 : 1 to attack reliably. Failing that, find a commander with a high aggressiveness rating.

Also beware: Burma bases are subject to a Monsoon season (March through May IIRC) where attacking troops are at a major disadvantage.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Good things to know - thank you, sir!

It'd be nice to just get a patch or two. The Japanese AI is doing some REALLY weird and stupid stuff in my current game, I've sunk all of the CV's and all but one of the CVL's by mid-43.

That and I've noted some odd stuff during the Japanese supply phase - whenever my subs sink a certain kind of tanker, they will then start shooting some weird Japanese torpedo on the next round. Hmmm.
