Game errors

I am new to computer gaming and am not really very tech savy so please forgive me for being a novice. I purchased the downloadable version of HCI on 21JUL09 and have had several problems. The game seems to crash about half the time, most often with a message like "the main executable for HCI has encountered a problem..." The last error was a "GetMemAnnex Error:IS_DISK(2268[0x8dc])=14". Also the game when you open it starts you off in a randomly selected scenario. It didn't do that when Ifirst started playing. I have a new Sony Vaio with Vista home and student,Core 2 duo, 4GB ram. Problems aside, I really enjoy the game and look foreward to many hours of enjoyment this winter. Thanks[&:]

Hi MkHarp. I'm guessing you are running the CD version of the game, aka 2007.000. By updating to the current version most of your errors should go away.

First download and install the 2008.044 patch from ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon-C ... 08.044.zip (make sure you close the game before running the patch).

Second download and install the 2009.042 patch from http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.ph ... ost&id=908

Once those are installed you should be met with a more stable (and quite a bit more capable) game.

Please let us know how you fare or if you need more detailed assistance.

Oops, I missed your comment about Instant Action. Once you are automatically plunked into a scenario, go to File then New. At the BattleSet selection screen you'll see a checkbox for instant action, uncheck that, start a scenario and as a result, in the future when you start the game you won't be put into a random scenario.

I know its not your problem, but I lost my serial number(my own fault, I know). I'm having trouble reaching tech support. Any idea hoe long it takes on average for them to respond?

MkHarp, start the 2009.042 patch, when you get to the SN entry page I think you'll find your SN. Copy that down, exit out of the installer, then do the 2008.044 and 2009.042 patch like post #2 in the thread says.
