If the game is slow

depending on computer and set up and play and what not, the game may be slow, or slower on some computers then on others, if everything is turned on and running

(my old computer, my duel Core, my laptop, 64 bit Vista Duel Core, runs great, full bells and wistles, my new compter, a Quad Core slows down some)

so if you have, or need to, here are some things to remember

you can set the Affitiny (?) if you have more then one core

Ctrl-Alt-Delete, go to the 2nd box, find the game name, and right click on it, the drop down will list Affintint, check and make sure all or some of the cores are checked as needed (some work good with all, some work good with less then all ?)

and yes, I got too much running in the background

next, right click on the game again, and then go set Priority (I set mine to high, don't know if that real time would be better or not ???)

from with in game

(only during game play, plotting and what not is okay)

the two biggest drains on speed are Show Night Time on (click that to off)

show Explosions, is minor, but you could turn that off too, if you don't want the delay while the bombs are going off

depends on your play style, but you have plane art to show on the map, or you have raid boxes, most of the old time players liked the raid box style better and used that, your choice

and the biggest during play is the target icons, you can switch off the Icons, by going to the right hand buttons and picking urban targets, that will take all of the Icons off of the map

or, once the missions start, you can hit F2, which will then remove all target Icons but what was plotted for the day's missions

of course, clouds, and Radar Circles, will also slow down things (really, Radar Circles should not be used during the missions, other then to look to see where they are)

Alt-Tabbing

you can do so, but the game does not really like it, when you go back, you will have a black screen, that is okay, it just needs to refresh itself, you can either wait, or move the mouse around (try to find one of the buttons on the tops of the screen (weapon database is a good one to know where it is, click that, then exit it (or hit Esc if a window was already opened)

Depending on your computer, some windows puters don't like to clean out there buffers too well (very old hassle)

so, over all, would ask you to shut down the game and restart it, if you want to go from one side to the other (start a BoB game, then exit and start a BTR game)

for me, I can jump back and forth between games, with no hassle, but some people have data issues, where data from one game will still be in place, instead of the new data, if so, shut down the game and restart, that is really a windows issue and not the game itself

for BoB/BoB41, the map size is a little different, so when first opened, the right button panel, will be taking up some of the room, on the right side, either wait a little bit and the map should resize, or click on the Zoom button (or weapon database) and that should resize it)

for the BoBs, on a save, the map will go back to this short map, so make sure you zoom in the map and resize the map correctly

if you show a hourglasse, circle turning icon with your mouse, that is okay, (normally means it is waiting on something, game is fully loaded) some people get it, some don't, but if you do get it, you can get rid of it, but going to the save button, and just save the game, and it should go away

Oh yea, another slow down for speed of play, would be message, message levels, 0 you get nothing, 3 you get the most details, for me, I don't really like to play with the messages off (nothing like seeing that prefect bounce out of the sun !)

Just for the S***s and giggles of it I tried the command line switches from WITP-AE for multi core cpus etc. and the load time was sig faster plus playing in windowed mode gave sharper graphics on my 17" laptop.

My only complaint so far is mentioned above. This game really does not take too kindly to alt-tabbing out of it. It takes a while to come back up or crashes completely trying to redraw the screen.

Even though I have an administrator account on my Vista 32 system, it won't let me change either the affinity or priority. I keep getting a "not authorized" message.

What am I doing wrong?

Despite trying the suggestions above, my game is still very slow. And I am talking about the planning mode. Scrolling the map is slow, when I want to adjust the flight path, that is impossible.

There is no way I can play this game in its current state, which is a shame as I was looking forward to it alot. I hope the patch will sort things out cause I'm feeling a bit frustrated right now.

for what it is worth, we are working on it, things are looking good on my computer, but, not sure if mine was a bad as what others were seeing, but it should improve it if nothing else, but, it is looking good so far

Hi All,

I too had the issue with sluggish and slow performance. I run the game on a Dell XPS M1530 laptop with Vista and a Core 2 Duo T5750 CPU with 3gb RAM. I discovered that when I turned off night, now all the sudden the game is no longer slow but is in fact blazing like some others have reported. I remember when I playe BTR before, I turned night off anyway. Darn near impossible to fine scroll the map now. That's all I had to do to fix it. I didn't do the affinity/priority nor did I disable Directdraw (can't anyway with Vista).

Cheers

I am in the same situation as apd1004 (Fujitsu Siemens AMD turion X2 64, ATI radeon 3470, 4 gb ram, windows vista).
I would disable ddraw but I can't with vista and Ati.
Game is slow, the only solution is to set night off. Affinity priority has no effect.
If this could help the devs, I had similar problems with WITP:AE but I used the command switch "-dd_sw" (disabling hardware ddraw) and everything goes fine.
Unfortunately there is no similar switch for GG:EDTBRT.

Bye!

There will be - Micheal and Bill from WITP:AE have provided me with their fixes, and I have put both the affinity and DD emulation into the development build.
