Need help with a personal mod

Hi CC people,
I'm 100% green when it comes to modding anything, so, I need help with creating my own mod.
It's not historical in any way, nor does it use new maps, only need new vehicles (graphics, data) and soldiers (weapons, data, sound). And for this I need help.
I can't use Excel or any Microsoft Office stuff - It costs way too much! I have Open Office.
I have been thinking alot about this, and since I'm having major surgery soon I will be unable to move around for some months. So a personal mod would be awesome!
Modern-ish era with stock WaR maps.
Any help, tips, ideas?
I'm no good with computers, so I need it.
Thanks! [8D]

I've heard Open Office will work on the WAR workbook, with that you can edit the Data.
Vehicles you might be able to borrow some from other mods created or maybe someone can send you the CCM Vehicles.
Try the CCS site and have a look at the download section for other Tools and Mods.
You will have to register in order to use the site. It's still alot of work but if you have the time it can be completed.
GL with the lobotomy.......I mean surgery.

Thanks for the reply. Platoon_Michael.
I've been playing CC for some years, but never made my own mod.
Or even attempted. So this is confusing, to some degree.
I have downloaded everything of interest from CCS before posting here, and the OpenOffice version did not support macros, or something like that.
How can I borrow from other people?
If anyone that reads this have some vehicles, sounds, etc. to borrow - please give a shout. As I said in the opening post: Modern-ish. Post 1950, at least. (I was thinking about Sheridans, M41 "Walker Bulldogs", and such. No historical ties.)

Thanks for the reply, Southern_land.
I am currently playing RSR, so I have that already.
I need to make a "to do" list.
Anyone know what needs doing?
As I said before: I am keeping stock maps, voice effects, etc.
This brings me to a problem I am having:
how can I use someone elses vehicle graphics?

I'm pretty sure the RSR guys have left the scene, I tried contacting them a couple of months ago about a similar project.
I think the practice has been to credit them in your work

Thanks for yet another reply.
Oh, too bad they're not making mods anymore.
What tools do I need?
I'm guessing map making tools are out of the question.
Need tools to edit the forces (decided to have the "Varjag" side, and the "Hildolfr" side. Just means "the oathsworn" and "Wolves of war".)
Data editing
How to add sound to a weapon?
And making some graphics.
Really awesome to have someone that knows what they're doing helping a guy who doesn't know crap about this stuff.
Thanks!

Oh, and if it wasn't obvious:
I'm trying to make a mod for WaR.
Not historical, but I'm going for good gameplay.

No, but you'll need some form of graphics program. If Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop are too expensive there is always the GIMP, but be aware that it needs some form of plug-in to be able to cope with the uncompressed .tgs files ... and I never figured that bit out.

Need tools to edit the forces ... Data editing
This is where OpenOffice applies.

How to add sound to a weapon?
I have a note that "CC3Hack" is a good sound editor, but I have never used it myself.

We were all in that boat once. It's good to have you aboard!
Don't be too ambitious when you kick off or disaster will strike and you'll be disheartened. Tinker a little; nibble at the edges; score small successes and before you know it you'll be spending more time modding than playing!
Good luck.
