So I have flown in an airplane before, and I once watched the movie " 12 O'Clock High ", so that should be good enough for me to be able to start playing this game at an expert level immediately shouldn't it ?

If you've got a handle-bar moustache then you're all set.

Wear a scarf and goggles while you play. I hear it helps.
Who knows maybe your wife or girlfriend may like your new look as well.

if your really, really a rookie, start off with the one day BoB battles, that will get your feet wet with out being too overwelmed
BTR can be overwelming
but even then, you can start up the long campaign and just play one area of the map, and only plan on running a day or two and see what you can see, and start again
(during testing that is what I do)

You also need to be able to do proper RAF banter, utilizing such phrases as
Bally Jerry
Cabbage Crates Over The Briney
Top Hole
How's Your Father

Geez, more lingo. It took me a week or more to figure out what KB, DEI, Mini KB, etc meant. Oh well, off to look up Brit flyboy WW2 slang.

I thought so, I was getting the War in the Pacific "feel" with the screenshots, specially the menus.

Hi Hexagon,
You can have the AI set missions according to air command in the 'Set Bomber Targets's screen.....you can tell them to assign missions to specific industry types etc.

Except with 10 minute turns as the defending side!!! It's a good thing you can alter the time rate!!![:)]
Truely a huge game to play the full campaigns but loads of fun though... [:D][:D]

Yes, I looked at the old game with the tiny window, then looked at War-Plan Orange, and used that as a template. I like the result...
The gameplay is completely different though.

Not disagreeing with Erik, but I would, with respect, put it slightly differently.
The feeling of detail is very similar to WitP, but the learning curve is a little less daunting. WitP looks at all environments (land, sea, air) and aspects of the war in the Pacific Theatre, whilst EDBTR looks at just one - air. But it does then go into that bit greater depth than air in WitP - you are plotting individual raids, selecting primary and secondary targets, planning tactically sound ingress and egress routes, controlling your flak deployments. So the overall feeling of depth and detail is the same, as for Gary G games - just in slightly different but significant places.
I loved this when Talonsoft released it in 1999. Ten years on, I love it even more. Real thanks to Matrix for rescuing it and allowing us the chance to put ten years of playing experience into updating the wee beast.
