Tips for how to use Ops Reports & SigInt effectively?

As a newb still getting to know the game, I love the Ops Reports and SigInt features in WitP – or at least, I love them in theory. I’m amazed at the realism and level of detail. “Oil slick reported at 206, 87” and the like. Cool!!
Still, I’m having trouble actually making use of them. I *really* wish there was some hyperlink functionality – so that you could just click on a line in the report and it would take you to that location on the map. Or if there could be markers – like little flags you’d pin on an actual map – that would let you know that something’s up in that hex – with maybe a tooltip that would contain the Ops / SigInt intel. for that hex as you mouse over it.
I find that there's so much to keep track of on the map itself, I don’t have the patience to copy things out on paper from these reports, and then spend time trying to find the hexes in quesetion. Is that really the only way to get the most out of these features?

I agree. It would be nice if this was a little more user friendly.

For sub reports I just note the general area and look at is as an indication of enemy activity. You'll start to associate the bases with hex coordinates after a while (although I'm pretty sure my brain is dumping out some useful information to achieve that).

Playing for Japs -> dont bother reading SigInit file [:@]
Playing for allies -> one useful thing is too look for thesee in the file "3/I./33rd Inf Regt is loaded on xAK Daido Maru moving to Lae." Then setup ambush by either air, TF or subs to interdict the fleet carrying troops and/or lay mines in the port targeted by enemy convoy.

I agree. Arranging a 'meeting' for IJN transports based upon emissions intercept is a good use of the system. You can 'scan' for the difference in text so as not to read all the 'radio emissions from Tokyo' fluff.
I just had the fortune to be able to move one of my SS pig boats to Cape Gloucester after getting an "xxx unit on xxx AK, heading for Cape Gloucester" message. I managed to torpedo two transports filled with troops and then, in a very agressive move, the SS captain engaged a third ship with deck guns, setting it afire. Go Silent Service!
Other uses:
1. The location to which enemy units are preparing may tell you where the next hammer strike is going to fall. If one of your DEI bases with a decent port facility has enemy preparing for it, it may be time to support that hex's defense (move an SCTF unit there for a warm reception) or plan on getting out while you can.
2. The 'xxx men on xxx atoll' information can occasionally be useful if you are planning on invading soon. I keep a jotted tally of these troop dispositions as the game progresses to chart changes over time.

With Classic WitP, Bhodi's WitP Utility was fantastic for tracking sigint, ops, and combat reports on a duplicate of the map. Something like this for AE would be wonderful.

I found the sigent useful up to late 42 for picking up potential jap attacks but after that i looked at it less and less as the japs went on the defensive.
The ops report is handy to me for a couple of reasons--tracking the repairing of ships, location of reinforcements and tfs out of fuel are a couple. Once you get into late 42 and onward the number of reinforcements can be staggering for the allied side and hard to keep up with unless you track them with the ops report.

Anytime you have a hex mentioned...take the time to research it. That means you MUST read them daily to benefit. I was playing the 1000 mile scenario and missed one day...of course, it was the day it said his CVs were moving to hex whatever. The next turn I had a sub sitting 40 miles out of position that may have been in position to take a shot. Oh well, lesson learned.

Knavey speaks the truth. Playing as Japan I used to laugh at SigInt reports like "heavy radio traffic reported in Brisbane." I was like, "I'm paying you dunces to tell me the Allies have taken Australia! EEdiots!" However, I learned that if you then go mouse over those bases you sometimes see something interesting, like an estimate of aircraft present or a sighting of a CV in the harbor, etc. It's nothing like what you get as Allies, but every bit of intel helps.
