Any chance on BTR art being overhauled and take out the RAAF & SEAC paint schemes?

Very nice - thank you!  Must also ask if you any plans for the other artwork?  Heck, if you repainted the plan-view aircraft I might turn on the icons and zoom in on occasion to enjoy the artwork.  [:)]

According to Nicholas i must ask if you are working on the axis aircraft too?

It's been a while coming, but part one for BTR. The Allied sides and a file of a few alternate sides. The alternate sides will cause the game to show British Liberators (MkIII and VI) in place of the USAAF ones, a Mosquito NFXIX for the XII/XIII/XIX and a PR.IX to show for the PR.IX and ELINT Mossies as some aircraft share the same images.

And a preview of some of the sides. The four on the right are the alternate sides. To use them, open the aiside file in mspaint and untick draw opaque under the image settings, then open the alt file and copy and past into the main file.

Speaking of which... with Italian types should I do them in RA markings like they'd start the game in, or RSI markings like they'll spend most of the game in?

I would definitely prefer the RSI marking since RA is only around for 17 days out of 600-700.

Would love to see your full size versions of your art before you resample them down to size.

if I was going to be doing it (:) I would say the G.55/G.56 and the Mc 202/205 should be in RSI colors, the rest should be in RA

(for the human player I would also add the Re 2005 in RSI colors)

That's what I was thinking, long term I can make up some alternates for the other option.

Really, the full size ones aren't anything special and they look pretty poor. The way I work varies...

Usually I'll either work from an existing profile from the 'net if there's one that roughly matches the type I'm making, the it's scrub all the markings and create my own. Or if it's an unusual type, like the Do 335 NF then it's made from a 3 view line drawing. Fill in the correct areas with whatever camo I need (the nachtjager dapple effect is great for this) and put the markings over that, then add shadow and highlights to the proper areas and shrink it down.

If it's done from a 3-view drawing then on the large scale version will usually show up where the 'panels' meet, when it's shrunk down the joins aren't obvious on a scheme like the dapples. If I get a decent one put together then I'll post it on here.


The RAF Libs were made from a USAAF B-24H, the fuselage was already in all over black, so it's simply a case of removing all the US markings and features that I don't need. Then using the rafweb site get a camo pattern and layer that on top of the base layer and shade it a bit. Then it's shrunk down before squadron markings are added and the image is put onto a sky backdrop. For different marks the same small base image is used but extra turrets etc are added at the same point as markings. The Lib III and RCM both came from the same base, but have the dirreing turrets and aerials fitted. Not sure if it's clear enough, but the RCM version has a US style turret whilst the III has a Brit Boulton Paul turret.


Now that I've ruined my mystique I'll say that anyone could do it [;)]
