Plane Icons v. Flight Lines

The game runs very fast if I use Flight Lines (the box depictions of squadrons) but slows to a nasty crawl if I switch to the airplane icons. Is this going to be fixed ?? No big, the Flights Lines are ok and don't hide the map like the plane icons do.
