Extremely Frustrating

Downloaded the two patches from a previous post, and that stopped the game running entirely. Error message is Printer End doc failed!.
I've had so many problems with this game, and there's no way to contact a human who knows anything. Emails go unanswered, and the marketing company in the Phillipines says contact manufacturer's tech support. As far as I can tell, no tech support exists.[:@][:@]

Go to this page showProfile.asp?memid=9 and email Erik Rutins. He's very responsive...busy, but always helps where someone is stuck. He should be able to at least point you in the right direction.

On reading this, I can hardly believe that you're talking about Harpoon: Commanders' Edition (HCE). Are you? [&:]

My first thought is spambot but at least they finally meandered into the correct spot for support, come to us people, skip Matrix unless you have a bad SN.

Thanx to everyone who replied so quick...

And yes, it's HCE. It was working (with the occasional crash) before. Anything made with the scenario editor will not even start, but the given scenarios would work ok. I downloaded the patches from the previous post, and now it immediately gets that "printer" error.

I'm wondering if by chance you installed the patches to a different location than your original game install? If you did, install the patches to the original location you used and see what happens.

Please let us know how you fare.

It also won't hurt to run the settings clearer available at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.ph ... owfile=228

The settings go back to default the next time you start the game after clearing them.

We're also available for IRC chat and most other instant messaging if you want to set up a time. IRC access via http://www.harpgamer.com (two Java IRC options there plus a very basic chat client at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.ph ... owfile=281). I don't want you to get too frustrated with try this, write the forum, try again,... if you'd prefer to chat and get thru it all more quickly at some point.

Ok. Downloaded both patches again and game (build 2009.042) is working. Scenario made with editor still causes crash, but I might not have everything for the scenario completed. Thx for responses.
Any ideas about SE?[&o]

Does your scenario run at all or crash immediately? Often times, a scenario failure has to do with either:

(1) mismatched databases (but I presume you are using only the stock DB?); or

(2) an 'empty' base or group (i.e. a base or group that was added to the scenario but never placed .. use your Backspace or Spacebar to cycle through your scenario's bases and groups to make sure all are accounted for).

With the old mod of the game the scenario would start, then say something like "you have no more units".
Now, it will be one of two errors. One is Harpoon Commanders Edition GE has encountered a problem and needs to close. The other is memory allocation failure. Both of these errors close the game.
I looked through the scenario with editor and deleted the only unplaced unit I could find (that dosen't mean there's not another one somewhere) and still get the microsoft error.

Can you zip and send the scenario to hc3@harpgamer.com so that we can take a gander? Thanks!

Hi,
while I'm sure tony will get you sorted once you get the saved scenario to him, I thought I'd just pop in my comment.
I see these messages sometimes when I've stuffed up a bit, either opening a scenario in the wrong battleset, having the wrong database (commondb.res) file in the main directory or similar. From what you say you shouldn't be having these problems as you are I assume running the program as patched and that will have the standard database in place.
My question then is were the scenarios in question written with a standard database?
Don Thomas
PS 1. you'll certainly get all the tech assistance you need from these guys, and 2. you'll have a ball with the game.

Just an update, the issues reported here were resolved by opening a scenario in the wrong battleset, now we're on to different ones [8D]

Seadog.

You're pretty much right. If i'm in the correct battleset and open with the user scenario tab that comes up there, it starts working. There is another problem with a memory allocation error, but it looks like Tony already got the message on that.
