AAR for a battle in the MED

just sort of a copy of another AAR going on, but my way

while doing my testing, I need to be running stuff, so may as well show it

basicly just running the in MED, leaving the North alone

trying to work on AS, and take control of the air in the south

which to be honest, won't do much, since there is no pressure from the north, I can't do enough damage to make any difference other then what I am working on

I like to keep stuff in NA to work on Sardina, here is the first day plots

moved the US 39s to the coast, moved the B-25s to Sicily, move alot of RAF stuff up into Sicily, and all CW bombers

sent some NFS also, and have sent some BF's to the eastern Med (but that was on turn two)

to the right, those are the night raids

the deep raid is 4 B17 groups, with all of the P-38s

closer is a raid of 3 B-26s Groups, with 3 P-40 Sweeps

as long as the Axis is going to keep forces in the toe, they going to get pounded

nothing too deep, may goal is to gain AS over the toe, plus all the moving, half of my bomber force is not ready for action, so some raids, and then sweeps

back and forth, did good and got my head handed to me, one issue the Axis has, is how close the front is, there reaction time is not good, and really, they should pull back, they can't react fast enough sitting on the coast

Great AAR, love the pics too [;)]

I always liked the Med Campaigns in BTR because it`s less dense as far as targets & air units you have to use and oppose. You can be flexible with tactics and not just have to bull through the defense as with 8th. AF & Bomber Command.

I`m curious though why you didn`t first attack the radars in the toe and north ?  I they do seem work in the Game, don`t they  ?? , and are not just chrome ???

PS: Where did the NFS and BFS come from, thought they were restricted commands ?

the 38s had a field day, the B-26s were late, as were the P-40s, so a good day in Sardina, that could of been a lot better

lots of planes coming in from Bari, and the 2005 came in from the heel, my sweeps kicked, and then got kicked

those bases close, are total Flak traps

some notes

79th FG (P-40) hit Palizzi, killed 5 and damaged 7 109s, lost 1 and 15 damage to aa
57th FG (P-40) hit Fabrizia, killed 3 and damaged 8 Re 2002, lost 1 and 22 damage to aa
86th FG (P-40) hit Crotone, killed 13, and damaged 34, mixed, lost 1 and 28 damage to aa

(kill and damage on sweeps can be misleading, you can damage the same plane more then one time, and you can also kill a plane that has been damaged, but the numbers look good)

opening phase looks good, 21 killed and 49 damaged, for 3 lost and 65 damaged (the flight home is going to be touchy, and the troops are going to be up all night tonight)

then the Axis got off the ground and things got a lot more confusing, so numbers are guesses

232 squadron of Spit Vs hit Crotone, got 9 more kills and 17 damaged, with 1 lost to aa

47th BG (A-20s) hit Fabrizia
340th and 12th BG (B-25) hit Palizzi

Dale Shafer scores his 3rd kill this mission (one of the 38 jockeys)(LOL, he is a Spit jockey, ooops :)

114 and 18 Squadrons (Balts) hit Crotone, 1 kill
2 SAAF (kitties) hit Fabrizia, 1 kill, lose 3 and 7 damaged to aa
4 SAAF (Kitties) hit Camigliatello, no damage, but lose 2 to aa
260 hit Castrovillara, nothing

so far, I show 36 kills and 69 damaged for 9 lost and 97 damaged

Dang AA

27th DBG (A-36) hits Crotone, 8 kills, and 17 damaged, losing 1 with 21 damaged

Lee Wiseman gets his 3rd kill (another 38 Jockey)

a number of those damaged crashed or were bounced by the late fighters coming in

night raids were a mess, the It are very late taking off, never get close

for the day, flew 1283 missions, losing 44 planes, 13 to AA, with 125 damaged
the LW flew 263 missions, and lost 123 planes, 54 on the ground, with another 97 damaged

(in the old game, the SAS would be slipping in and doing major damage with all of the damaged planes, we fixed that)

the Libs are faster then the Hailis, but they got the Nav gear, so got to send them out first, and let the Libs catch up

the toe

sweeps and raids, going to shut down some fields today, also send out some Mossies and kitties, going to try to catch the planes at Bari and those nasty 2005s

Sardina

the trap is looking good, looks like the Axis see the B-17s as going deep and about to chase, the early sweeps are in place, and the B-26s and heavy sweeps are coming in

but to the good, two Gruppen have taken off from Bari, my Mossies may have a field day

oops, Mossies catch the 202s coming home, then the 109s from Foggia that didn't have any targets switched and had a field day with my Mossies

(you don't want to do this)

the early raid, coming in from the south, the 109s get off the field and closes in, then the US Spits go to town, knocking down 5, not bad for Spit Vs

my Kitties are getting hurt, not all there fault, they are getting bounced

one of the tricks of doing sweeps, is to keep the enemy away from them !!!
