it would be nice to have the option to have the same target graphics when zoomed in as when zoomed out ; I'm sure it's been mentioned before ////

this is one of those games I would never remove from hd to make space

along with tacops, harpoon, steel panthers and steel beasts

make a back up of your files, you want to back up Build0, put that someplace safe

make a copy of the file build1, maybe rename it, so they both are in the folder, then rename the copy to Build0

that should give you what you are asking for

not sure how it will work or how it will look, but it should work

You may want to look at this mod from the original BTR. I did not create this - some talented individual I do not know did this. Unfortunately no readme file. It can be used for both Build0.bmp and Build01.bmp located in the DAT\Art folder. Change the file type of the attached .txt file to .bmp.

The image shown here is a jpg image which you do not want to use.

I have fiddled with build0.bmp and here is the .bmp version.

Please rename the attachment to build0.bmp
save it to ../Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to the Bombing of the Reich/DAT/ART

You should put this in the MOD thread.

That way it will be available to everyone else, down the road.[;)]

Great!! I was waiting for this file to turn up.

Now I don't have to resurrect my old PC to recover this file.

Anybody have this blown up even further as a replacement for the other build files? (i.e. super zoomed viewing levels)

I never liked the old original Icon set that came with the game as it uses the same icons for the different industries.
Eventually I found some revised icon-set that had been posted by Nicholas Bell in the Matrix Games Forum.
This set actually has been developed for the original games "12'o Clock High" and "Bombing the Reich".
The original author seems to be unknown, but kudos to you who did it.

I futher optimized them now and added the third in game zoom level as well.
I normally only play the game at Level 0 and 1, but at times level 2 becomes handy.

With the original game icons, at that zoom level you already get some kind of real pictures for the targets.
To me that was always more confusing than helpful.

So I decided to use the modifed set that was originally created for Zoom Levels 0 and 1 now also for Zoom level 2.
The Icons keep the same size, so that you now get a much better overview about what is going on.
On top of that, I also indicated the CRITICAL industries with a marker, so that you now can easily spot them on the map.

Installation:
Open the Explorer and find your Programm-Directory "Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to the Bombing of the Reich\DAT\ART"
BackUp the existing 3 files build0.bmp, build1.bmp, build2.bmp
Copy the 3 files provide in the downloaded Zip-Archive into this directory, overwriting the existing files.
Launch the game.
You should now see at zoom levels 0, 1 and 2 the map using the new Icon-Set.

I did not bother to modify Zoom-Levels 3 and 4 as I do not play at this level.
However it certainly could be done with some effort.

If you find any typos or have suggestions for enhancements, just drop me a PM at the matrix forums.

Please see the picture below. The zip-file is in the next post.

Enjoy

Here is the attachment.
It is actually a *.zip File, but the Forum would not allow me to upload this in that format.

After downloading, you have to rename the file "EDBTR - Map Icons.zip.txt" into "EDBTR - Map Icons.zip".
After that you should have no problöems in unzipping the files.

And here is another file that I created for a better target identification.
It matches the modifed Icon set in the 2 previous posts.

I have not been able to fully decode all data, so any suggestions about the missing info is more than welcome.

Hi Terry,

Just a tip. If you save the file above in GIF file format the result will be sharp and clear on the forum.

JPEG is good for photos (and compresses the best) but produces fuzziness in pictures with plain colours (particularly reds) and sharp edges. GIF is a lossless format and gives a much better result (see below) but is limited to 256 colours. However, I would be very surprised if a plain picture like that would have more than 256 colours. If it does, just reduce the number of colours with a graphics program before you save.

PNG format is also lossless and supports more colours but is not supported by the forum. (Doesn't mean you can't zip it up and post it as an attachment).

Another tip to prompt people that a file posted as an attachment on the forum is really a zip file is to name it "File.zip.txt"

Hope you find this useful.

BTW. Love your work!! This is just great!!!

Reg,

thanks for the tips.
I have changed the files according to your recommendations.
Now things should be more clear.
