Non-historical first turn - Alternative Port Strikes?

If playing non-historical first turn, are there any ports worth bypassing PH to strike against instead? Looking through the map, the only potential target I could see being feasible was Singapore. Bringing KB here would give a good chance of ensuring Force Z was sunk, and taking out the 5 TK's located in the port. Also, having KB in the Malaya region would open up some real possibilities for taking Singapore, and then DEI, on an advacned timeline.

So, my question then, is it worth bypassing the attacks on the PH BB's to potentially move up the timeline for Singapore (and more importantly, DEI)? Also, am I missing something or is this the only potential strike that would make sense in lieu of PH?

Some folks do Manila; you can toast a ton of subs on Day 1. Hitting Manila has the side benefit of positioning KB around the PI, if that's what you want. You would be pretty much guaranteed to sink all fleeing ships, and can support landings in the DEI.

I'm personally not a fan of it though, I prefer PH.

My personal preference would be San Diego (and Saratoga), but can't go there![:'(]

I had an opponent hit Brisbane once.

I never thought of hitting San Diego. That would be nasty.

Anyone tried it?
