More questions about pilots..

I love this game [:D]
If a pilot is WIA what will happen to him?
- will he return to his unit?
- will he return to the pool and then a random unit?
- is there a chance he wont return at all? (lost his arms and legs)
If groups of planes patrol without engaging, do they gain experience? Interesting to know if we are able to train replacements
Thank you for your answers and keep up the good work!

ah, he is wounded
with in game terms, he is placed on a delay until returning to action, you will see the number of days it will take for him to heal, when he is wounded
- will he return to his unit?
Yes
- will he return to the pool and then a random unit?
No
- is there a chance he wont return at all? (lost his arms and legs)
only in so far as the length of the game, you play BoB and one the first day, Bob Tuck is wounded for 99 days, he will be out of the whole battle, other wise no, they coming back

that is a odd one, I have tracked that for years, and still don't know how all of it works
there are all kinds of things that work in that area, did you get a kill, did you get attacked and survive, did this, or did that happen, normally, a kill is worth around 2 points, I have seen kills give one or none, and others that gave 3, I have seen a pilot get 2 kills and get 2 points while another pilot in the same unit gets a kill and gets 3
so there is a lot more going on, then to say, do this or do that, and this is what will happen
patrolling ? I am not totally sure on this, as stuff is suppost to happen for you to learn from it, but, stuff does happen
but IIRC, pilots under 50, gain some exp each day, then to gain over 50, you need some kind of combat/learning to happen
most "real" will have around a 70 to start (some are lower, aces or pilots with known kills (that I know about) will be higher (the BoBs are funny, you have a number of high scoring pilots who didn't have a kill until after the battle, so most of those are ranked at 70)
most AI pilots, that come in as replacements will be lower, some much, but some based on the unit, will get to come in higher, they wouldn't be going to that unit, if they didn't have some skills
every "real" pilot the Axis has or gets, will be worth there weight in gold
Thank you for your answers and keep up the good work!

Interesting information. I know that in BTR I closely tracked exp for pilots over a long stretch and pretty much decided that it was broken. Is your information reflective of "fixing" or "improving" something from the old game?

Really?
I found that a good commander seems to be the most influencel factor for improving low rated pilots' experience up to around 50.
ex: a pilot rated @ 25 will gain 1 - 2 points per sortie with a good commander. The same pilot with an excellent commander will gain 3 - 4 points.
After 50 points, they still gain points just not as rapidly, and they seem to "top out" around the commander's rating.
But, I can't recall any pilot ever getting into the 90's.
