In a two-handed full campaign pbem game I have running at the moment, the two players are controlling Great Britain (Alliance leader) and Germany (Axis leader).
The Comintern is under AI control at the moment and has already attacked the Finns.

My opponent has suggested that when either the Axis launches Barbarossa, or when the Comintern launches its attack on the Axis, then the player controlling Great Britain takes control of the Comintern.

I consider that the Comintern should continue under AI control as a co-belligerent, unless either sufficient DPs are played to bring them into the Alliance (probably impossible) or in-game events somehow trigger an alliance.

I know that as an example, other players have experienced the USA as a co-belligerent under AI control without them joining the Aliance, and I've had the same thing happen to me, which is why it seems reasonable to me to continue with the Comintern under AI control.

Could we please have the benefit of your opinions and discussion on ths matter.
There's probably plenty of gametime before we need to make a final decison. we're just starting April '40.

We're playing under these House Rules (but they don't really cover the question).

Eastern Front is the most important part of the war. You're handicapping yourself by turning it over to the AI. Leaving the USA to AI control isn't near as chancy.
 
Your call, but I'd want to run the show myself.
 
 

If you are playing the Axis you want the Comintern as an AI lead faction.
If you are playing as the Allies you want the Comintern as your faction.

It is a tremendous advantage to the Allies to have those Red hordes to control.

Why not add a third player to play the Comintern for you, or continue with AI control as that is how you started. You could give it a production boost, +50% perhaps, to keep your opponent happy.

Im unclear if this is a 1.5 game or 1.6. In 1.6 the developers have already modded the ship bombardment effect, so your house rule on that may be unneeded.

I don't think you can diplo the Comintern to join with the Allies. Would be interesting either way - Comintern as AI or human player. I would want to play it, personally.

Yes, it's a 1.5 game. We started before the final 1.6 patch was released. (I've d/l the 1.60 patch but I'm waiting for a final result before patching because of the saved game incompatibility issues.)

Decidedly. Control of the USSR is a game-winner, either way. If it's AI-controlled, then there's a very good chance of the Axis winning, if the USSR is British (Allied) controlled, then it's a walkover.
 
I believe the ideal solution would be to add a third (human) player, but my opponent wasn't too happy at the idea when we set up the game about a month ago.
Maybe he'll be persuaded, maybe not.

I play a game as British and American, USSR is AI in this game and it is doing very well. It's v.1.60. Germans never got less than 10 hexes from Moscow, Rostov never falled in the south. Only negative point is that Leningrad has fallen, but strangely the russians have penetrated quite deep in Finland, and they are beginning to encercle the germans in Leningrad.

We are in May 1942. Kharkov is already liberated.

It's not a 1939 campaign, I play the 1941's campaign.
